Hollywood Studios is one of the four parks in Walt Disney World.
The park is themed for the movies and has many of Disney World’s “thrill” rides. It’s also home to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It is certainly a guest favorite for its many options of entertainment.
We are sharing 50 Hollywood Studios Tricks in this video you can watch right here!
We go to Disney World 365 days a year, and we frequently rope drop the parks. Even if you’re a rope dropping pro, there are some things that could surprise you about rope drop at Hollywood Studios. Let’s talk about them!
For those who don’t know, rope-dropping a park means you arrive at the park BEFORE it opens. You are usually allowed to go ahead and scan in and walk to a point in the park where Cast Members are holding the crowd until opening time. This gives you a “head start” on the crowds. Most people who rope drop quickly head to some of a park’s most popular rides, to get in line and be one of the first to ride before the lines get long.
Here are the things that could surprise you about rope drop at Hollywood Studios!
Get There Early
If you’re rope-dropping a park, you’re already getting to the park early. But if you want your rope-dropping experience to be successful (as in get on as many rides as you can before the lines build up), then you’ll want to be there at least 45 minutes before the official park opens.
Lots of people rope drop this park, because it is known for having multiple rides with some of the highest wait times in Disney World! Expect a large crowd. The best way to get on the rides you want to before their lines get long is to be near the front of the crowd. Remember, once you get to the park, you have to walk to the entrance, go through security, and get in line (which is LONG). If you’re there early and near the front, you’ll get through the gate relatively quickly!
No Roaming Hollywood Boulevard
They don’t let you in to roam Hollywood Boulevard early — this is different than other parks. They wait to let anyone in the gate until the official park open time.
At some of the parks, the Cast Members will actually let you into the park before it officially opens and then stop you at a certain point before the rides. Then when the park “opens’, they’ll let you by to get to the ride of your choice. But that is not the case at Hollywood Studios.
If Rise of the Resistance is Down, Your Whole Strategy Might Be Ruined
Most of the time, the people who rope drop Hollywood Studios will speed walk (don’t get caught running in Disney World!) to Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge.
This usually frees up other ride lines like Tower of Terror. But on a recent visit, Rise of the Resistance and two other rides were down first thing! This ended up causing Tower of Terror’s line to be REALLY long. That day it had the longest line at park opening, which is not usually the case.
Starbucks is Not Always the Answer
A lot of people will go straight to Starbucks after they get into the park. While we also love our Starbucks drinks, this seems like a waste of time.
When rope dropping, the first 10-15 minutes are crucial. After about 15 minutes, the lines at the rides will start to go up A LOT. So instead of standing in line for coffee right away, knock out some rides FIRST! Then, when the lines start filling up, go back for Starbucks.
Rope dropping may not be everybody’s idea of a good time, like the people who enjoy sleeping in on a vacation. But if your goal is to ride as many rides as possible, then this might be the technique for you! We hope these four surprising things about rope-dropping Hollywood Studios help you on your next trip to Disney World!

I remember when rope drop actually meant more than just getting to the rides early. Anyone else remember things like the storm troopers on top of the building before opening and other pre opening happenings at other parks as well? I miss some of those pre Covid perks! Now it is just waiting in line, noting special..
