Things at McDonald’s are changing.
McDonald’s has announced that new crispy chicken sandwiches are on their way to select stores. There are also new Happy Meal toys available that will have Pokemon fans excited. But there’s another change coming to ALL McDonald’s that some customers might not be happy about.
According to Insider, McDonald’s will be phasing out its self-serve soda fountain machines in dining rooms across the US. Some McDonald’s have already started this process in Illinois and along the West Coast.
“McDonald’s will be transitioning away from self-serve beverage stations in dining rooms across the U.S. by 2032,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “This change is intended to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering points, whether that’s McDelivery, the app, kiosk, drive-thru or in-restaurant.”
So, what’s the reasoning behind this? Many believe that axing the machines could improve food safety and decrease theft. There are also fewer customers dining inside fast food restaurants. While 2032 is a while away, you could start to see some locations transitioning sooner.
