Hollywood is in the middle of a historic time right now.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike since May 2023, and the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) have been on strike since July 2023. This has halted the production of many movie and television productions, but recently, we’ve also noticed several TV shows have been canceled.
For example, we’ve seen some cancellations over at Disney+, including the Doogie Kamealoha, M.D show. Meanwhile, upcoming projects, like The Spiderwick Chronicles and Nautilus, will not be moving forward on the streaming service. Now, ABC, which is also owned by Disney, has canceled another TV series.
That show is The Wonder Years. According to Deadline, the series has been canceled after just two seasons. Reportedly, there were hints that a cancelation was on the way when the second season was moved to summer, which often happens with shows that are about to get the axe.
This is one cancelation that may not have anything to do with the strikes, though. Variety reports that The Wonder Years was the lowest-rated and least-watched show on ABC this summer. It was also the lowest-ranked series on ABC during the 2022-2023 season.
The series was inspired by The Wonder Years series from 1988 and follows the story of a 12-year-old boy in the 1960s as he navigates growing up.
ABC has not made any other announcements about shows. We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Too bad about Wonder Years but I really miss Big Sky.
