The strikes in Hollywood are already having a huge impact on future TV and movie projects.
Both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are currently on strike, with some key issues being a source of contention including the use of AI, as well as streaming residuals. The strikes have now been going on for months, which means that TV and movie projects are being delayed. But you might be surprised at just how many of these shows and movies are currently on hold due to the strikes.
The Los Angeles Times has put together a full list of every TV show and movie that’s been delayed due to the strikes — and it’s three pages long. Disney has a total of 18 (19 if you count one ABC TV show) TV shows and movies that are on hold, including some Marvel and Star Wars projects. For example, Captain America: Brave New World has been delayed from May 2024 to June 2024.
Other Marvel projects delayed include Blade, Thunderbolts, Deadpool 3, Avatar 3, Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, an untitled Star Wars movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, Avatar 4, Avatar 5, What If…, and Ironheart plus ABC’s Abbott Elementary.
The X-Men ’97 TV show is also delayed from Fall 2023 to January 2024, along with Daredevil: Born Again and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
If the strikes continue, it’s likely these dates will get pushed back even further, with even more projects being added to the delayed list. We’ll have to see how the current talks/negotiations are going with the strikes, and see if an agreement is made soon between the WGA and SAG-AFTRA and the studios.
We’ll keep an eye on the situation and keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
