Let’s face it, chances are if you’re not coming to Disney World for the food, characters, or entertainment, you’re probably there for the rides.
Disney World is jam-packed with rides and attractions that will keep you on your feet all day long sprinting from one to the next. But with so many rides that can break down at any moment, time could be of the essence when you’re trying to get so much done in such a small amount of time.
You only have so much time allotted to fit in every ride you’re looking to hop on in one day while you’re in a Disney World park and staying on pace to make it through your entire list for the day is essential.
Most of the time if something goes awry in your plans, even for the most experienced of Disney park-goers, it’s due to a fault out of their control. Rides and attractions break down all the time, stay closed for the remainder of the day, or even just plain don’t open at all that day. It’s also a bad day when you’re actually on the ride when it breaks down and you’ve spent valuable time there instead of headed to your next ride.
We’re offering up 6 rides that will waste your time in Disney World that you may want to reconsider working into your plans for the day.
Spaceship Earth
She might be beautiful to look at in that big, shiny ball… but she can be a handfull!
This is easily one of our favorite classic attractions when she’s working. Often, you’ll hear of people getting stuck for long periods of time (often in dim lighting or dark) or completely evacuated from this ride.
It’s also not uncommon to see this ride on a temporary closure throughout the day. If you’re looking to fit this one into your EPCOT plans, we recommend making it last on the list.
Peoplemover
Tomorrowland can very easily be one of your first stops as you’re starting your day at Magic Kingdom, but when this ride goes down, the downtime can be pretty lengthy!
This easy-going “highway in the sky” around the land is way to catch a breeze and get off your feet for around 8 minutes or so, but this one can really bring on anxieties if you get stuck on it above the crowds below.
Most of the time this one can be just stuck for a few moments and resume, but it’s not uncommon to be completely walked off of this ride — plenty members of our team have experienced ride evacuations here.
Space Mountain
While we’re “stuck” in Tomorrowland, we’ll go ahead and talk about Space Mountain as well.
This one seems to be hit or miss lately. If you don’t see it temporarily closed consider yourself lucky, but be careful…
… we’ve also seen Space Mountain stuck a few times on the tracks recently with the whole building’s lights turned on — which usually means a ride evacuation isn’t far behind.
Dinosaur
Over in Animal Kingdom, the one ride we know not to depend on from one day to the next is Dinosaur.
This one usually likes to sleep in late and experiences delayed openings or has problems staying running for the full day. If you’re waiting to ride this attraction spring for it as soon as you see it’s open and operational. You’re wasting your time waiting around for it all day if it’s already seen problems earlier. You would probably do best to continue on in the park rather than take your chances waiting it out.
Rise of the Resistance
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is already limited with generally larger crowds and higher wait times.
If you’re planning on trying to ride Rise of the Resistance, you’d better hope it’s having a good day. Since it debuted, this technologically advanced attraction has consistently had issues breaking down and ultimately having to evacuate guests — even after some pretty hefty delay times in the ride vehicles.
If time is of the essence for you and it’s having one of those days where the force just isn’t quite with it, it could spell disaster for the rest of your park plans.
Haunted Mansion
Ah yes, how could we forget… the Haunted Mansion is constantly interrupted by playful spooks materializing to cause chaos.
This popular omni-mover attraction attracts a particular audience already looking to be a tad frightened, but you could be in for more than you bargained for if you find yourself stopped in the middle of your doom buggy ride tilted backward outside of the attic.
On the flip side, this one could be arguably the best ride to be stuck on as you join the other 999 happy haunts and their swingin’ wake!
So now you know which 6 attractions we’re avoiding when we’re pressed for time in Disney World and can’t afford to be stuck for long periods of time. Be sure to check back in with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest in Disney news and updates.

Ronjon says
In my experiences, when a ride breaks down, they usually give a Lighting Lane Pass for the ride later on when it is fixed. If the ride doesn’t get fixed, you can use the pass for other rides.

I agree Ron Jon. We received the same. Actually I wouldn’t call these rides “That Will Waste Your Time” more like ‘COULD cause you to lose SOME time’. But the risk of time wasters is everywhere, not long ago some friends wasted 50 minutes on a mobile food order. While some rides have more hiccups than others, I would strongly urge all, don’t skip these rides for fear of them ‘wasting you time’.Disney is Risk and Reward
Laurel Lane says
None of these are timewasters. They’re popular attractions.
Grumpy48 says
I have to disagree on most of what you say.
I am a frequent visitor to world and only once have I been evacuated in any of those rides. And that was raise.
And I ride all
If these rides on each visit. Sometimes multiple times.
Benzany says
We got stuck on Carousel of Progress once for 20 minutes. First and last time I will ever ride that.
