If you love Moana, then you’re probably just like the rest of us and anticipating October 16th, when Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana officially opens in EPCOT.
Cast Member previews for the new attraction have come and gone, and currently, Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members are previewing the walk-through attraction. Over the weekend, EPCOT reached park capacity, and well… things didn’t go to plan with the attraction queue. The standby line got so long that Disney decided around 10AM to switch to a virtual queue in order to mitigate the high crowds. Now, though, things have changed AGAIN.
The standby queue is BACK for Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, just a day later. September 24th was the very first day of guest previews, so the attraction was probably just overwhelmed by all the folks hoping to finally experience the attraction.
However, this has us a bit worried about the official opening for the attraction. If the queue was overwhelmed by the exclusive previews, what will these lines look like when all guests are able to venture inside?
There’s a chance that a virtual queue will be utilized on the official opening date, if things go similarly to the previews. We’ll just have to wait and see! Currently, Disney has said that the Virtual Queue could be utilized “as needed,” so it’s possible that it could return. Many Disney fans were disappointed in the abrupt switch to a virtual queue over the weekend, though, so hopefully Disney will announce virtual queue updates BEFORE the opening date, if they choose to utilize the virtual queue again. We’ll be sure to let you know if Disney provides updates!
We attended a Cast Member preview for the attraction, which takes you on a journey through a path that’s filled with greenery and “living, breathing water.” It was so much fun, way cooler than we ever expected from a walk-through attraction. We definitely recommend heading to check it out after October 16th.
We’ll continue to keep you updated with any and all Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing!

We were there yesterday about 11am with no wait and not too crowded. Maybe it depends on timing?

We were there today, Tuesday, with no lines, no wait and no hassle.

I was hoping that it would be as low key as Gorilla Falls.
