Heading to Disney World in the near future?
It’s a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected. Transportation can get delayed, rides can shut down because of technical difficulties, and technology can malfunction. Occasionally, we’ve seen the My Disney Experience app have some trouble, and this week it seems to be struggling again.
Over the past few days, we’ve noticed that Genie+ has had some challenges. On Saturday, one of our reporters was having trouble getting the app to load Genie+ selections. Starting at 7AM, guests who purchase Genie+ should be able to start making their first selection for the day, but in this instance, they weren’t showing up.
Finally, at 7:50AM, selections became available. But then on Sunday, another reporter had a similar issue. At 7AM, the app would not let her make her first selections at 7AM. At 7:05AM, she was able to make selections from her phone, while another person in her party was able to at 7:10AM.
This can be a big problem for those who are trying to get the most use out of this service and book those popular rides as soon as they can. This experience is happening for multiple guests, but it seems to be inconsistent from user to user. If you do have a trip coming up that you plan on using Genie+ for, you’ll want to be mentally prepared for this. If it happens to you, make sure to keep trying to make your selections in that app! You never know when it could be back up and running, so the more you monitor it, the faster you’ll be able to make those selections.
Also, make sure you take a lot of screenshots. In the event that you do need to request a refund, it’s always a good idea to have documentation of what happened.
Lastly, be prepared to get to the parks early and/or stay there late. If Genie+ doesn’t end up working out for you, you’ll be able to get to more of those must-do experiences if you maximize your park time.

Saturday, 9/23, it took a while get purchase Genie, with the problems you described. Eventually we did get it loaded and secured 0950 for Remy. About 0930, Remy went down. Our Genie+ Remy selection was removed and we were offered other options that we did not want. Even when Remy became operational later in the day, it was not an option on our MDE.

I had the same exact thought as Daniel………….I will continue to not use Genie+
Richard Mercer- says
I would not use Genie+ even if (espeically if?) it were working perfectly.
Sad to hear Remy is still having problems. My last visit was just after it opened (coincidence) and it was a;readu having problems. Has it ever been working properly for an extended period?

Honestly, Disney just makes things more difficult to enjoy the parks with ease. I don’t mind Planning a vacation but once there I like to enjoy my time. Setting alarms to book the next Genie Plus. Monitoring my phone is not enjoyable.
Jack says
Hate genie plus. Go back to the free and functional fast pass system. Disney just keeps making things worse.
Laurel Lane says
It’s time to retire Genie+. Most people do not like it. Most purchase it because they feel they are forced to, not because it’s popular and they like it. Fast Passes worked so much better and were more popular. People keep asking for that return. Give the people what they want.

We had this exact situation happen to us on 9/27 going to Animal Kingdom. I logged in to MDE app on my husbands phone and his started working before mine did. Try using multiple devices to get through if this happens!
