One of the BEST perks of staying at a Disney World hotel is the free transportation.
Between the monorail, Skyliner, boats, and buses, making your way around the parks and hotels is pretty easy. Recently, we’ve seen more and more transportation offerings come back, and with this newest change getting around the Disney World hotels is about to get even easier!
A Disney World transportation change takes effect today! The boat service between Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge had not been available for quite some time. But, as of October 1st, the “blue route” is back!Â
This route takes guests across Bay Lake between the two resorts, and we haven’t seen this service available to people staying at these hotels for a while now. Note that this service doesn’t begin until 3PM every day, so if you want to get from one resort to the other before then you’ll need to use a different route.
There are a few different options if the blue route is unavailable:
- The easiest option to get between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge is to take the bus instead. Yes, there is a bus that runs directly between these resorts (which is pretty unique for Disney World — other hotels aren’t connected to each other via bus). The Yellow Line bus runs between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. It’ll take you between the front entrance of Wilderness Lodge and the Settlement at Fort Wilderness. (Disney has said that they anticipate this route will continue, although they can’t be sure it won’t change in the future — we’ll keep an eye out for more updates.)
- You can also take a boat from one resort to Magic Kingdom, disembark, and then board another boat to your destination (e.g., sail from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom, disembark, and board the Contemporary Resort boat). This could definitely take a while — likely at least an hour — so keep that in mind if you’re on a time crunch and need to be somewhere quickly, such as if you have restaurant reservations.
Prior to this boat service going away, there was a route that serviced Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and Magic Kingdom, but Disney has shared that those routes will continue to remain separate for the time being. You’ll have to catch one boat between Wilderness Lodge and Magic Kingdom, and a separate boat between Fort Wilderness and Magic Kingdom.
This will hopefully make it even easier for folks staying at these hotels to get from one to the other and to Magic Kingdom. We’ll continue to look for the latest Disney World transportation changes and more, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!

Why does Disney often mention FREE transportation throughout Disney World. Things like Buses, Monorail, Sky Tram and Boats. Of course these methods of transportation should be FREE. Is Disney actually thinking about charging us for the use of EXISTING FREE TRANSPORTATION . Guests, what would your reaction be if Disney do this?
