Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a NEW walk-through attraction that’s scheduled to open in EPCOT on October 16th. But we just got word that this attraction will actually be opening EARLY!
Disney plans to hold a soft-opening for the attraction starting very soon!
Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana will have a soft opening starting tomorrow, October 6th. The attraction will be open on “select days and hours” from the 6th through the 15th, and it’ll officially open on the 16th.
During this soft opening, Disney may use a virtual queue. You can join the virtual queue on the My Disney Experience app starting at 9AM until it reaches capacity or is no longer needed.
Disney employed a virtual queue during the Annual Passholder previews, but only during select times when the attraction was particularaly crowded.
At this attraction, you will be able to explore what Disney has described as a “lush exploration trail” that allows explorers to “play with magical, living water” through an immersive, self-guided walk-through attraction.
In addition to the trail and interactive living water experiences, you can learn more about the importance of the water cycle — it’s giving old EPCOT learning vibes.
As you walk through the attraction, you’ll see signage describing the natural water cycle. Each of the sections — Rain, Stream, Wetland, Spring, Land, Lake, River, Ocean, and Sky — has a way for you to interact with the water. You can play water like a harp, watch it part for you to walk under a waterfall, and even cause some waves!
If you’re a fan of the movie Moana, you should be able to recognize some familiar characters and shapes that are carved into the rocks and waterways.

How long did it take disney to finish this”attraction”? We just walked thru it this week. I am confused as to why it is in Epcot when it should be in animal kingdom. And what in the world took so long? They should have taken the money spent on this and instead put it into the imagination building and have left the dancing water fountain right where it was. I really have to question who is making these decisions?

We recently visited this new walk-through attraction, and felt it was very cramped. Between all the people, the strollers, the mobility scooters, and the heat, it wasn’t a great experience. Whoever designed this should have made the areas much wider, or even better, just made it part of the existing open walkways. Standing in line for this new ‘attraction’ really misses the mark.

I also walked through this week, and while I enjoyed the attraction it was somehow less than I expected. It was a little too crowded to read all of the informational signs, and as usual in Disney World there were other guests who didn’t seem to realize that they weren’t the only ones there and that others were waiting to interact with the various features. It was also smaller than I expected, but it was fun and I would walk through it again, though I do agree that I probably wouldn’t wait in a line for it.
