The time has FINALLY come!
That’s right, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is officially OPEN for guests to visit. This long-awaited addition to EPCOT underwent Cast Member, Annual Passholder, and Disney Vacation Club previews, and now it’s finally time for everyone else to join in on the fun. At the previews, we saw crowds SKYROCKET to the point that Cast Members had to utilize a Virtual Queue. Disney also said that the VQ would be used again once the ride opens if needed. Well, today is the day, and we’re ready to check out those crowds!
When we first headed into EPCOT, the crowds were moderate. When we entered the park, we realized that the attraction was utilizing the Virtual Queue system — so we were hoping that this would cause the crowds to be a bit more spread out.
The crowds grew a bit thicker the closer we got to the attraction. However, the crowd levels were much better than what we were expecting. When we arrived, we noticed that the Virtual Queue was moving quickly and orderly. It wasn’t crowded at all!
After the park had been open for only 45 minutes, 18 boarding groups had already been called. So, it’s safe to say that things were moving relatively quickly. From the time that our boarding group was called, we waited 20 minutes before we were able to enter.
Throughout the attraction, crowds were moderate and pretty orderly. Definitely not the madness we were expecting from an attraction’s opening day! Of course, the line was long once our boarding group was called, but as we mentioned — it moved pretty darn quickly. 20 minutes for a line like this isn’t bad at all!
So… if you’re wanting to get to experience this attraction as quickly as possible, we recommend getting to EPCOT as soon as you can in the morning. Plan to arrive around 8:45AM, and then after you are in the park, plan to grab that VQ as soon as 9AM hits. This way, you’ll hopefully be among the first groups of folks to enter the attraction.
So, if you’re visiting Journey of Water soon, make sure to prepare for …… We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news as we have it, so make sure to follow along for more!

I was one of the first to see it with my granddaughter who’s in the DCP – it was gorgeous and I hope people love it as much as we did
