Have you thought about all the things you’re planning on bringing with you on your trip to Disney World?
There are things you should definitely bring with you like chargers, umbrellas, and water bottles. There are things you don’t need to bring. And then there are those things that Disney outright prohibits from their parks and property. Let’s talk about those things that you might not have known that you can’t bring with you on your next Disney World trip!
Now let’s get to it! Here are 6 items that you might not have known that Disney specifically prohibits from their parks and/or properties.
Glass Containers*
We can totally understand that when you’re packing your bags and thinking about all that you’re going to do, you might spot that glass container full of your favorite drink all ready to go. Here’s the thing though, Disney prohibits all glass containers in the parks, except for small ones like baby food jars.
You might be wondering why. Well, it’s all about safety. Imagine if glass bottles or containers were to shatter in one of the parks. Those shards could be quite dangerous for everyone, so Disney just plays it safe and bans glass containers.
Selfie Sticks
Many people might not realize this, but selfie sticks are actually prohibited in the parks. Honestly, we’re pretty glad this is the case. Selfie sticks have been known to get dropped on rides and tend to take away from the experience of attractions for other guests.
It’s no fun sitting on a ride while trying to look at everything with a selfie stick in the way. Our tip is to just enjoy the ride. But if you must take pictures, please be respectful of the other guests around you.
Folding Chairs
Folding chairs are the next item that’s on our list. There are so many times that we wish we could have brought one of these. From saving seats on the ground for watching fireworks to taking a break when all the benches are taken in the middle of the day.
So while it might seem like a good idea, it probably isn’t, and they’re prohibited by Disney anyway. So that leaves us either searching for a park bench (which can be really challenging sometimes) or pulling up the best piece of cement nearby.
Wagons
Okay, so wagons actually seem like they could be really useful in the parks. You could put the kiddos and all your merchandise in it and roll it around with you. But wagons are actually prohibited by Disney.
Wagons, trailers, or even strollers that are bigger than 31″ (79 cm) in width and 52″ (132 cm) in length are prohibited. There are so many people in the parks and crowds can get wild, so having these restrictions helps with crowd control and of course, once again, your safety during those busy times.
Be sure when you’re packing your stroller that it meets Disney’s guidelines or opt to rent one of theirs for the day and don’t bring a wagon. You won’t be allowed in if you do.
Balloons*
Can you think of a thing that’s more of a symbol of celebration than the humble balloon? I mean, we all LOVE balloons, but did you know that there are some areas of Disney World where they’re prohibited?!
You won’t find them at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Kidani Village and Jambo House). Why? Disney’s got a thing for wildlife conservation and wants to keep its animal residents safe too. The last thing anyone would want is for any of the animals to start munching on balloons or get tangled in those balloon strings. (Also, you won’t find balloons at any of the water parks or ESPN Wide World of Sports.)
Plastic Straws
Staying on theme with conservation, you also won’t find plastic straws at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Kidani Village and Jambo House). They’re strictly off-limits there.
They’re bad news for oceans and marine life, and Disney is all about reducing its environmental impact. So, if you need straws, you may want to consider bringing reusable straws with you.
There you have it! 6 items you should NOT pack for your next Disney trip. Disney does provide a list of guidelines and prohibited items, so if you have any questions check that out. Instead, for a list of items you SHOULD bring with you to the park click here!
