A lucky few Star Wars fans got the opportunity to REALLY travel to a galaxy far, far away on Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
The pricey experience included a lot of out-of-this-world food, as well as an interactive roleplaying experience that put you right in the middle of your very own Star Wars story. There was also bridge training (yes, you could FLY the ship) and lightsaber training if you needed to hone your skills. Disney World closed the experience earlier this year — but there are a few clues that it might actually return.
First, a permit was recently filed for “general construction” happening soon at 201 S. Studio Dr. (the address for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser). The contractor listed on the permit is Colwill Engineering, who often helps Disney with engineering, mechanical, electrical, and technology work.
But now, there’s another hint that Disney World is thinking about reopening the experience, at least in some capacity. According to TheWrap, a survey was given to those who participated in the Galactic Starcruiser’s final voyages. Also, the questions on that survey make it seem as if Disney could be considering reopening it in some capacity.
The survey had four sections, each dedicated to an experience on the ship: “Pre-Arrival,” “On Board,” “In Your Room,” and “Overall.” There was also an additional questionnaire for guests to fill out about “Moments That Shaped My Halcyon Starcruiser Experience.” It was broken down by days and had markers for various onboard activities.
Some questions were specific, like one that asked how guests prepared their character before they boarded the Halcyon. Other questions were more general. There was even one question that asked if the participant was an introvert or extrovert (which could affect how activities on board the interactive experience would be perceived).
Of course, we’re just speculating here, but it doesn’t seem likely that Disney would take the time to survey guests if the company didn’t have some idea of reworking the experience, right? It’s unclear if the survey mentioned the price of the experience, but many believe that a less costly, pared-back experience could appeal to more people.
Disney has not yet confirmed its plans for the experience or even the building it resides in, but we’ll certainly be looking for more hints. For now, maybe we shouldn’t say goodbye to the Halcyon just yet. We’ll have to wait and see!

I would expect it to reopen as a Star Wars shopping and dining experience with costumed performers. The problem is, how to move large numbers in and out of a facility that is far from the crowds, that is the stumbling block to do anything connected to The Studio’s.

I think if they just turned it into a regular hotel, maybe add a sweet Starwars themed pool, they’d basically be printing money.

All the activities seemed like more of what you’d find at a children’s museum.

I more paired down version could work out VERY well. I showed my wife some GSC videos, and she thought it looked like an exhausting experience with all of the quests (side quests), experiences, and rooms to explore. Pairing down some of the actor intensive interactive experiences to lower the price point might work out.

It was AWESOME!!! Our family had the most amazing time because being at the hotel (on the Starcruiser) is like being in a movie! The storyline was incredible, the food was the best in Disney World (unlimited filet mignon!!) but what made it really shine were the Cast Members!! They were in character 💯 and they were very convincing. From the moment we were greeted in the parking lot with personalized magic bands on a silver tray until the moment we packed our lightsabers into our suitcases to go home, our journey on the Starcruiser was the best experience we’ve ever had at Disney World. I hope they find a way to bring it back so other passengers get a chance to try it out!

Maybe something like an interactive dinner theater mysteries.
We know that people often pay a couple of hundred dollars for Broadway type theatre experiences.
Make a 3-4 hour interactive story tour, with meal and charge $300 or $400.
I would be willing to do that, where the $2000plus for the 2 day experience was a non-starter for me.

The price was just way more than a family or retired people can afford. It also took away from being able to also have a Disneyworld vacation.
Turning into a regular (or DVC) hotel seems like a much better idea. You have the restaurant, lounge, and stormtroopers. That would do it for me!

We had the good fortune experiencing the Star Cruiser, and it was phenomenal! There was so much to do and the crew performers were incredible and created so many special moments. Rey asking my daughter for help and Chewie patting her head in thanks was just one of many moments that felt personal. We had such an amazing time that I would book it again if I could. I hope they find a way to bring back that magic.

Forget the show that comes with the outrageous price and make it part of DVC.
