Are you flying to Disney World anytime soon, say over the next few days? More than likely, if you are, you’ll be flying into Orlando International Airport.
Now, we know that things like flight delays and cancellations happen, but one particular airline has had multiple cancellations that began a few days ago, continued the next day, and are still happening as of October 22nd. So if you’ve got a flight scheduled with Spirit Airlines soon, here’s a heads-up.
According to flight tracking service FlightAware, Spirit Airlines canceled 29 flights into and out of Orlando International Airport on October 22nd, 2023. These flight cancellations are due to ongoing mandatory aircraft inspections.
Spirit has notified its passengers Friday with the following statement:
“While this action is being taken out of an abundance of caution, the impact to our network is expected to last several days as we complete the inspections and work to return to normal operations. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to take care of affected Guests. Our Guests are advised to monitor their email and check their flight status on spirit.com or the Spirit Airlines App before heading to the airport.”
That total is 15% of all Spirit Airlines flights. The disruptions resulted from 25 planes being taken off their flight schedules for aircraft airframe bracket inspections. Inspectors are looking “for signs of cracking around fasteners that attach pressure panels to beams on the planes’ airframes,” according to Tampa Bay news affiliate WTSP 10. Spirit had previously warned passengers that the inspections could result in multi-day cancelations.
Spirit Airlines said the inspections are “out of an abundance of caution” but did not provide additional information, according to NBC News.
If you have a flight scheduled with Spirit Airlines soon, you’ll need to keep an eye on your flight’s status on the Spirit Airlines website or through the airline’s app. We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
