There are plenty of places to eat in Disney World.
But if you ask us, some of the best meals are hiding around the Disney World hotels! Not only can you find some delicious eats, but you’ll also run into iconic Disney characters if you know where to look. And since we do, we’re sharing one of our favorite Disney World breakfasts with you!
Atmosphere
Cape May Cafe is located in Disney’s Beach Club Resort — just steps away from EPCOT. This restaurant serves all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not only that, but it’s also home to Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast!
You’ll find the Beach Club just steps away from EPCOT, and it’s full of beachy vibes like you’re sitting in a little beachside cottage. There are light and airy elements everywhere you look, and it’s got plenty of places to sit.
The characters will come around to your table as you’re having your meal, and in our experience, it’s a great way to kill two birds with one stone — have a meal and meet some characters! This can be a huge time saver if you’re looking to get a lot done during your trip.
Since this is a buffet, you’ll order drinks and things from your server but will go up to the buffet line to actually pile those delicious eats onto your plate. In our experience, we didn’t have to deal with too many lines or hard-to-reach items.
Of course, in addition to the food, we came to check out the characters!
Characters
Depending on when you’re at Cape May Cafe, you may see an assortment of different characters, including Minnie Mouse…
…Goofy…
…and Daisy Duck too!
Donald usually makes his way around the restaurant as well, but we didn’t catch him on this visit!
Menu
The Cape May Cafe character breakfast buffet is priced at $45 for adults and $30 for kids. It’s certainly not cheap, but it’s actually one of the more affordable character meals in Disney World. Plus, it’s all-you-care-to-enjoy which is often a win for picky eaters or folks looking to get their money’s worth!
You’ll find plenty of options on the menu, including Salted Caramel Beach Buns, oatmeal and grits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, an omelet and crepe station, a carving station, and so much more.
There is also a decent selection of specialty drinks to choose from — both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. You can imbibe with a mimosa, Bloody Mary, spiked coffee, or regular coffees, juices, teas, and soft drinks.
Let’s see what we wet our whistle with on this visit!
Drinks
If you subscribe to the idea that no meal is complete without at least 3 different drinks next to you — we can relate. And even if you don’t, there’s no denying that you’ve got a pretty decent selection of bevvies to choose from at Cape May Cafe. We started breakfast off with a cappuccino that was pretty solid — we’ve definitely had better specialty coffees at places like Le Petit Cafe, but it did the trick.
Similarly, we enjoyed the iced coffee but it was just that — a regular ol’ iced coffee. Certainly worth getting if you’re an iced coffee fan, but nothing that will change your life.
We got a couple of the alcoholic beverages, and the Salted Caramel Cold Brew drink was really, really sweet. But, still had kind of a nice balance from the alcohol. You definitely taste the salted caramel flavor. It came out pretty balanced in strength alcohol-wise, but certainly on the sweeter side like a Shakin’ Jamaican from Joffrey’s.
Next, we tried the Traditional Bloody Mary, which was pretty much just Bloody Mary mix ,vodka, and olives. Very basic. We asked for lime and black pepper to zhuzh it up a bit. After that, it was pretty darn good! If you like spicy Bloody Marys, you might want to ask for some hot sauce because this was not hot at all.
Of course, we can’t only have a liquid breakfast — so let’s talk about those EATS!
Eats
Even though Cape May Cafe is a buffet, you’ll still have a server for things like drinks, extra napkins, paying your bill, and oh yeah — the delicious Salted Caramel Beach Buns that are brought to your table.
These were SO GOOD. They’re sweet without being overwhelming and are super moist thanks to the caramel and the vanilla sauce they’re served with. The combination of the sticky caramel and the sea salt sprinkled on top make these buns some of the best bread in Disney World. We could eat these for breakfast by themselves! But we didn’t. You know, because of science.
We’re going to go ahead and start off strong by saying that this might just be the best breakfast buffet in Disney World. Not only did we thoroughly enjoy the food, but even if this weren’t a character meal it would be a great bang for your buck. The fact that there are characters is just a bonus!
There is a ton of standard breakfast fare on the menu like we mentioned before, but there are also certain added elements that take this buffet to the next level — like the omelet station! We loved being able to craft our own creations and think all Disney World buffets should have this option.
In addition to the omelet station, there were also crepe and taco stations! Talk about options. You could choose what toppings you wanted on your crepe and a Cast Member would make them right there in front of you.
As far as the tacos go, this was an assemble-yourself situation which gave us the freedom to really go all out and customize our own tacos. We’re not kidding when we say this breakfast can’t be beat! Often times it’s hard to do buffets well as the food can sit and maybe isn’t the freshest, but we didn’t find that to be the case here at all. There were so many elevated options that made this better than many Disney World buffets we’ve experienced.
They had a Poached Egg Hash situation that was amazing and full of flavor, and just not the kind of thing you expect on a buffet. This was a very filling all-you-can-eat meal and relatively reasonable for a character meal and buffet. We would recommend this to just about anyone who is trying to get good value out of a Disney World meal and just loves good breakfast food!
We think your kiddos will likely have no problems with the offerings on the menu. Mickey and Minnie waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, and potato barrels are all usually excellent choices — and this was no exception even for our adult palates!
We will mention that traversing a character buffet with kiddos can be a bit chaotic. There is a lot going on which can be overwhelming — even for us! It’s something to keep in mind if you’ve got anyone in your party who is sensitive to overstimulation.
Breakfast at Cape May Cafe is a win for us — and we think it just might be for you too!
Nosh or Not
You should book a breakfast reservation at Cape May Cafe if…
- You want some serious face time with characters.
- You’re looking for a breakfast buffet with a good value.
- You’re staying at this resort or visiting EPCOT for the day.
You should skip breakfast at Cape May Cafe if…
- Breakfast buffets just aren’t your thing.
- You don’t want to commit to a full, sit-down meal and prefer something quick instead.
- You won’t eat enough to justify the cost of the buffet price.
Overall
We don’t have enough good things to say about this meal and think it is a seriously underrated option in Disney World. The character interactions are solid and fun, there are plenty of different eats on the breakfast buffet line, and you can’t beat the value for what you get. Plus, being so close to EPCOT makes it easy to head into the park after you’ve had your fill!
