If you’ve sworn off Disney World pizza, have we got the update for you!
Pizza at Disney World can be a divisive topic, and depending on which park you’re visiting and what kind they serve, you’ll probably get a wide array of opinions. On a recent trip out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we tried a new menu offering that could potentially flip your former opinion of Disney pizza as long as you keep an open mind!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is filled with great food choices to grab a quick bite to eat as you’re breezing by, so we figured we’d stop by Terra Treats to see if they had anything that sounded yummy. To our surprise, we spotted something new on the menu!
We’ve been waiting for a new pizza flavor to debut here for a while and now it’s finally here! Terra Treats is now home to the Thai Sweet-Chili Pork Pizza. We decided to snag a slice for $7.79.
Once it was handed over to us we couldn’t get over how big this one slice was! It’s made of sweet chili-glazed smoked pork on thick fresh-baked pizza dough with melted mozzarella.
It was time to dig in and try it out, and we had so many initial thoughts just from that first bite. The pizza is fluffy and crisp but with a hint of sweetness. There’s no marinara sauce in the pizza, but the sweet glaze with the pulled pork bits was an interesting flavor. The mozzarella cheese is melted together to form the top layer with the pork pieces but also gives an almost buttery coating to the top of the pizza. The style and thickness of the bread taste like a personal pan pizza.
Once we got a few bites into the outside crust we noticed the crispy edges were a little burnt and the cheese also was a bit overcooked and had burned places in it — otherwise, it’s pretty good. There’s no real sauce on the inside of this one. If you’re looking for a saucy pizza you’ll probably do better choosing another pizza combination. There were also a few fatty bits to the pork bites that surprised us but weren’t hard to wash down the rest of the pizza and bread.
If you’re wondering where the chili came into it — we did too. We really didn’t taste any hot or spicy flavors until closer to the last bites of the crust, and even then it was very subtle and a soft heat, so don’t expect this one to be very hot to the taste.
Overall we enjoyed this new pizza but also can see that it’s definitely more of a savory/sweet combo that won’t work for everyone. If this isn’t quite the pizza flavor that’s ideal for you, we’ve reviewed pizza options all over Disney World, so be sure to visit the links below to find one that works, and be sure to stay tuned with us for more Disney foodie news!
