A lot has changed at Disney World hotels over the past few years.
So many hotels have been updated, and some are STILL under construction (Disney’s Polynesian Village and Grand Floridian Resorts, we’re looking at you). Many hotels also got brand new rooms, but they all had one thing in common: something was missing! So we decided to ask YOU, our DFB Readers, what you think of the rooms’ updated look.
That thing that’s missing in most new Disney World hotel rooms is…CARPET. Yep, Disney has swapped out carpet for hardwood floors in a lot of the new rooms across the resort. Now, we understand why this was done. First, it’s way easier to clean hardwood floors than carpet. Hardwood floors are also less likely to cause problems with allergens.
Now we’ve heard some people say they absolutely hate the new floors and miss the carpet. But we’ve also heard folks say they prefer the hardwood floors. So we decided to ask our readers what they thought — and honestly, the results surprised us!
When we asked, “When staying in a Disney resort, do you prefer your hotel room with or without carpet?” Only 24% of our readers actually hate this change and prefer the carpeting. But a whopping 76% of you said you prefer the new rooms with NO carpeting.
We know how hard change is sometimes, but this seems to be a change that a lot of people approve of!

I, for one, HATE the hardwood floors. Nothing is worse in the middle of the night than to either slip (if wearing socks) or hit the cold floor on the way to bathroom. Even high traffic carpet squares would be preferable to bare hardwood.
Brandon says
These new faux Hardwood floors are the absolute best thing ever. Who in their right mind thinks carpet in FL is a good thing. The mold and mildew made those old carpets stink which in turn made the rooms stink. Which in turn made all your closed and the bed stink.
Phyllis says
I like the wood floors, but please give us a broom to sweep!
Because housekeeping does not sweep!
Ever!
Christina says
Ugh. Hate hardwood. Carpet is much more pleasant to walk on. But I do appreciate the cleanliness aspect.
Sandy says
I like the idea of hardwood floors. I would think they would cleaner and more germ free then carpet.
Tracy says
I like the hardwood floors, and it seems like adding brooms wouldn’t be too hard, considering a lot of the DVC rooms already have them. Though my favorite improvement is Murphy beds instead of sofa beds, they’re so much more comfortable!
Elizabeth says
I like the best of both worlds . Hardwood floors with a THEMED area rug to keep the room a bit comfy but above all else tell a story and keep it themed.
Kim Sabia says
I hate the new floors. They are cheap laminate, not hardwood. It’s a cost cutting measure and it further dilutes the look and feel of the rooms. For the price of staying at Disney, I expect better. Each change they make is obviously based on profit and not on guest experience.
Beth says
I prefer the wood floors. I used to have to bring slippers with me because the carpets were gross with peoples dirty, sweaty feet! At least, I hope, the housekeepers to a damp mopping with each cleaning. ( p.s. i still bring my slippers.)
