A lot of exciting things are happening over at Disneyland Resort.
One of the most exciting is The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, the new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property that recently opened. We had a chance to visit recently, but something was MISSING at the time: the Palm Breeze Bar. Well, we finally got word that the bar would open soon, and the day has come to go see it and try it out!
Atmosphere
To get to the Palm Breeze Bar, you’ll go through the Villas main lobby and then head right near the elevators. You’ll see the pool door — walk through that. There are other entrances, but those are for hotel guests who have a key. Note that you do NOT have to be staying at the DVC villas to visit the bar.
You’ll find a nice breezy outdoor spot to dine when you arrive. Our server told us that Disney chose the name Palm Breeze for the bar because Walt Disney liked to vacation in Palm Springs.
As you can see there is plenty of seating available. You’ve got shorter tables with chairs…
…as well as longer tables for larger groups.
You’ll also find a full bar in the heart of the lounge.
It’s a very chill vibe, but we did notice that if it truly is BREEZY, you’ll find that it’s almost like dining in a wind tunnel, so hold onto your hats and napkins! It’s a nice breeze and feels great on a hot day, though.
Menu
This IS a bar, so you’ll find a good selection of cocktails available here. However, mocktails are also available.
Food includes appetizers, artisan pizzas, salads, and sandwiches.
Desserts are also available, including Beignets. But first, let’s order some drinks.
Drinks
We started with the Fifty–Five–Fifty for $16. It’s made with Selva Coconut Rum, Frozen Coconut Purée, Peach Juice, and Mint. We’re just going to warn you now: this is a VERY easy beverage to drink. It’s got a great coconut vacation taste. If we had to describe it, it’s like a grown-up ICEE.
We also ordered the non-alcoholic Virgin Chilly Mango for $10. It’s made with Frozen Mango Purée, Mint, Chamoy, and Chili-Lime Seasoning. An alcoholic version of this is available, and we’re thinking it might be better with the alcohol.
It was sweet with just a hint of tang, although you can taste the tajin. We didn’t get a lot of flavor from the mint, though.
Food
Okay, so let’s talk about the food here. The Cheese Fry Poutine for $19 is made with Demi-Glace, Cheese Sauce, Chive Sour Cream, and Pimento. Okay, this was INCREDIBLE. It’s got the fried cheese curd plus all that extra cheese. It’s a cheesy take on poutine with a LOT of cheese, and well, you know that’s our weakness, right?
We’ll also warn you that this is a HUGE appetizer so it could be a meal in and of itself or you could share it with a friend. It’s under “Shareable” for a reason.
We then tried the Ahi Tuna Tataki for $29, made with Aji Amarillo Ponzu, Persillade, and crispy Wonton. This salad was also quite tasty and the crispy wontons add a nice crunch. If you love seafood, we’d recommend it.
The sauce on the tuna offers a nice salty and sweet flavor. The persillade sauce, made with parsley, adds some brightness, while the ponzu gives the sauce a slight tartness. It’s a great combo!
Then it was time for some entrees. The Jumbo Lump Crab Roll for $29 is made with Tarragon and Lemon Aïoli, Fresh Dill, and Brioche and served with French Fries, House Potato Chips, or Fresh Fruit. We opted for fries…for reasons. So our reporter isn’t really into seafood, but liked this roll, especially the bread.
But let’s talk about these fries because y’all…these are some of the best fries we’ve had at Disneyland. Yep, we said it. They’re crispy on the outside but have those soft middles. YUM. So when in doubt, always choose the fries.
Finally, we ordered the Charcuterie Pizza for $24. It’s Artisan Cured Prosciutto, Pepperoni, Sausage, and Sun-dried Tomato ON A PIZZA. Charcuterie on a pizza. That’s brilliant!!! It’s an excellent pizza that’s not too greasy and has a LOT of toppings. The sauce was JUST right and balanced well with the rest of the ingredients. So basically, it’s a charcuterie board with an edible board (we can’t even).
So, hey, who’s ready for dessert? We are! Okay, so Disneyland beignets are something of a legend, so we’re skeptical when ordering beignets that aren’t shaped like Mickey. For $15, you get six little beignets: two are filled with chocolate, two are mixed berry, and two are passion fruit. The sauces are raspberry, chocolate, and passion fruit.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that the dipping sauces are in little Mickey cups? ❤️❤️❤️ Did we mention that these LITTLE CUPS ARE EDIBLE? No, really — they’re made with a tasty shortbread (pro tip: dip that shortbread cup in the raspberry sauce.
Okay, back to the beignets. They aren’t served warm like we’re used to, but they’re still really tasty, especially with the sauces.
We would 100% order this again, if only for the presentation alone.
Overall
The atmosphere at Palm Breeze Bar is nice and relaxing and although it’s outdoors, we did find that it might stay cool enough to dine here year-round. The food was great, the service was fantastic, and we enjoyed both during our visit to this new bar. This is NOT just a pool bar, although it technically is BY a pool. This is also a new restaurant in Disneyland that offers some unique items not found anywhere else.
Nosh or Not
Head here if …
- You want upscale food in a casual dining atmosphere. The vibe is chill and the food is many steps up from your typical theme park food. It might be worth leaving the parks for lunch or dinner just to get away from the chaos for a little while.
- You are staying at the Disneyland Hotel or at the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel. This is also a great option if you’re staying at the hotel and don’t want to walk into Downtown Disney for food.
- You want to try something new. The food here is a little different from what you’ll find at Downtown Disney or in the parks.
You can probably skip this if…
- Your focus is on the theme parks. If you only have a limited amount of time to visit Disneyland and California Adventure, you’re probably not going to want to leave the parks for food.
- You have picky eaters in your group. There’s not a lot here to appeal to picky eaters, although there are things like burgers and pizzas — although those items aren’t standard burgers and pizzas.
- You want a quick meal. If you’re looking to grab food quickly, this is not a counter service spot. This is a place where you’ll want to linger for a little while to enjoy the relaxed mood and food.
