What do you do if you have a medical emergency on a Disney World vacation?
This is a question we’ve been asked a lot over the years, and the answer varies greatly depending on the problem. Some issues can be handled at First Aid in the Disney World parks, while others may require a visit to a nearby Urgent Care center. In some unfortunate circumstances, a visit to the emergency room may be warranted. Our hope is that you never come across such an issue, but if you’re curious to know what the ER near Disney World looks like — today we’re taking you on a tour.
AdventHealth recently opened an ER near Disney World in Flamingo Crossings. This new full-service emergency room is located to the west of Disney property, off of Western Way, and nearest to Animal Kingdom.
AdventHealth recently invited us out to check out their new facilities, which combine “depictions of natural elements, Disney-inspired designs, and a team of AdventHealth experts to help every patient feel whole.” Here, you can get around-the-clock emergency care. Our first thought upon entering the lobby was that it was one of the most calm medical spaces we’d ever been in.
The color palette is full of relaxing blues and greens, the space is made up of soft curved lines, and there is a fresh, non-hospital-like scent ever-so-noticeable in the room. There is even a loop of gentle music from Disney’s Moana, Finding Nemo, and The Little Mermaid playing from the speakers. Around the lobby, you’ll find references to Disney’s Finding Dory — from a pretty Nemo and Marlin mobile hanging from the ceiling to various mosaics on the walls.
One of the touching details we noticed about the space was that it was full of characters from the movie who have various ailments. Destiny the whale shark is short-sighted, Hank the octopus only has 7 tentacles, Bailey the beluga whale has faulty sonar, Dory has short-term memory loss, and Nemo has a small “lucky” fin.
The emergency room is currently set up so that in the unfortunate situation that you do have to visit, you’ll immediately be taken back to a bed — no need to wait in the lobby during a registration process.
In each of the rooms, patients can control the tone of the space by changing the color of the lighting, choosing the music, or controlling the screen on the wall. These controls are all accessible through a tablet that you’re provided to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
Along with choosing lighting and music, you can stream videos from your phone or pick one of the visual hour-long loops that were made in collaboration with Disney Animation. These come in three different animation styles and you can choose from Moana, The Little Mermaid, and Finding Nemo scenes.
If you do need it, the facility has a CT scan room, with more references to Disney in the lighted screens above.
If your little one is nervous about the procedure, being able to spot Gramma Tala, Ariel, or the goggles from Finding Nemo might help take their mind off of it.
There is also an x-ray room that looks like the ocean at night, lit up with stars.
If necessary, the facility also has an OB room if you go into labor, a fully functioning lab, and code rooms for critical care.
Throughout the facility, you’ll notice more soothing Disney theming. The first hallway pays tribute to the East Atlantic Current from Finding Nemo, with a nurse’s station in the middle that features a beautiful mosaic from the film.
On the other side, Moana is showcased with mosaics of the scene where she meets the ocean…
…and the Heart of Te Fiti.
The EMT Lounge even has Dole Whip that can be given to patients in certain instances, like with medication, for free! The flavors rotate but will always be dairy-free. We tried the cherry and can confirm it was a nice touch.
That’s our full tour of the AdventHealth ER! Hopefully, you and your loved ones will never need to visit here on your vacations, but now you know what to expect in case something goes wrong.

that looks incredibly nice for a place I hope I never have to visit, lol. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a standalone ER with no attached hospital before- is that normal in the US? Like, who staffs this? People from a hospital on rotation, or actual staff specific to this one place? How likely is it they’re gonna be busy? I know a lot of people are at Disney and you get all kinds of weird medical drama there but I’m curious.
