Well, we got a nice surprise today, and that surprise was all about FOOD!
The 2023 Disney California Adventure Festival of the Holidays has officially started and we are checking EVERYTHING out, including the entertainment, the food (of course!), and more! Now we are READY to dive into some delicious food and drinks, so let’s head on over to Grandma’s Recipes to order up some grub!
Menu
Over at the Grandma’s Recipes booth, you’ll find food and drinks inspired by things your Grandma might make. There’s one food item here this year that’s new plus some wines and a brand new cocktail to try.
Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!
Eats
First up, we grabbed the Barbacoa Tamal de Res with Oaxaca cheese, tomatillo salsa, and crema for $9, which is new this year.
This had SUCH a good flavor — we loved the tomatillo salsa verde. It was fresh and spicy but had a mild spice level overall. The masa shell isn’t dry at all — it was moist and was a nice complement to the beef inside. And there was a lot of it! Our only complaint is that it was a little cold, but other than that — this was a hit. We need to know where this grandma is so we can personally thank her and give her a hug.
Okay, well, now we have to get something to wash it all down with, right? Let’s look at drinks!
Drinks
As we mentioned, there’s a new cocktail available here that we HAD to try. It’s the Berry Pomegranate Paloma for $16. It’s made with Blanco Tequila, blueberry purée, lime, cranberry, and pomegranate juices, and agave syrup topped with fresca mixed vodka spritz and garnished with an orange wheel and chile lime seasoned rim.
This was also a hit — it reminded us of a berry sangria! We loved the addition of the Tajin-seasoned rim. It was really fruity, but we didn’t get much blueberry flavor. It was heavier on the lime and cranberry. We’d definitely get this one again.
We also ordered the Winter Wineries Flight for $17. You get three wines, including Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc, which you can also order separately for $13.
Nothing really stood out to us in this flight. The sparkling rose was our favorite — it was sweet while still being dry. The cabernet was your typical flavor profile — fruity and dry.
The Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon is also available to be ordered separately for $14. Finally, the McBride Sisters Sparkling Brut Rosé can be ordered separately for $14. So, what’s the verdict overall?
OVERALL
If you’re looking for a bit of spice and flavor, we’d recommend stopping by this booth to grab the tamal and the Paloma! Other than that, though, we think you can find more exciting finds and foods elsewhere.
That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from!
