As 2023 comes to an end, it seems that more and more exciting Disney news continues to roll out.
Disney held its last earnings call of the year on November 8th, where we learned that revenue is UP both within the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products (DPEP) sector as well as within streaming, which Disney CEO Bob Iger has shared is his number one priority when it comes to the future of Disney. This information is fresh on our minds as we look forward to the new year, as well as information shared at the D23 fan convention in September, where we learned that Disney will be re-theming DinoLand, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So … what big news regarding these things can we expect in 2024? Let’s talk about it.
Here are two big announcements that we’re expecting in 2024:Â
What’s going to happen to DinoLand, U.S.A.?
As mentioned, it was shared that DinoLand, U.S.A. would undergo a re-theme to potentially include nods to fan-favorite movies like Encanto, Coco, Zootopia, and Indiana Jones. The area and theming of the park as a whole would work well with any and all of these themes, and we’re just wondering which of these, or if ALL of these, will be included.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, DPEP Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared that as far as IP used for the land’s re-theme goes, the concept art shared at the D23 convention was “where [Disney’s] head is at.“ Further, we already know that the Dinosaur attraction in Animal Kingdom shares the same ride technology used at the Indiana Jones attraction at Disneyland. It all makes a lot of sense!
In 2024, we’re expecting to hear some updates regarding this land re-theme, and whether any or ALL of the aforementioned ideas will be used!
Something new with Disney+.
Throughout 2023, Iger has shared multiple times that he believes the future of Disney lies within the streaming industry. He’s even said that Disney+ and streaming are his number one priority as CEO. At the final earnings call of 2023, Iger shared that Disney+ is expected to profit by the final quarter of fiscal 2024. Additionally, a beta version of a subscription bundle (that includes Disney+ and Hulu, which Disney acquired remaining shares of this year), is set to roll out domestically in December, 2023.
In 2024, we’re expecting to hear announcements regarding the official launch of this subscription bundle, and maybe even the news that something NEW and innovative is coming to the streaming experience.Â
If Disney is profiting from the subscription service for the first time since pre-pandemic days, it would make sense for those profits to be allocated toward transforming Disney+ (or aspects of it) to be something extra innovative and revolutionary in the streaming industry — something Disney aims to do in general.
