Love pin trading at Disney World?
While it’s been around for a while, the rules surrounding it have changed quite a bit over the past few years. After the COVID-19 closures of 2020, Cast Member lanyards were set aside in favor of pin trading boards across Disney’s parks. Lanyards have slowly started to return, so we figured it was the right time to go over some of the “unspoken” rules you should be following when pin trading!
Look. Don’t touch.
So, first things first, when you’re eyeing those wonderful pins, it’s all about the eyes, not the hands.
Take a good look, but resist the urge to dive in with your fingers. Your Cast Member friends will appreciate it!
Don’t touch (part 2)
Now, we know how it is when you’re studying that pinboard and spot a pin that’s practically calling your name.
Instead of grabbing it like it’s the last churro, remember those manners and ask the Cast Member about it. It’s like pin etiquette.
Only 2 Trades
We know it can feel like you’re in pin paradise, and you want to just trade, trade, trade. But hold on!
Keep it to two trades per Cast Member or pinboard encounter. This makes sure that the pin-trading flows without causing a traffic jam.
To trade or not to trade?
Now, remember not everyone might be up for a trade party.
While Cast Members are always game for the pin swap, your fellow guests might not be feeling it and that’s totally okay. Tell them they have great pins and keep moving on.
Window shipping is more than okay!
Let’s talk window shopping. You see a pin that makes your heart skip a beat, but you’re not really ready to make the trade. That’s okay!
Just ask to look, soak it in, and remember, you’re there for the fun, not the pressure.
Be mindful
It’s time to be the pin trader everyone loves. You’ll quickly find that there are pins GALORE, and decisions do need to be made, but be mindful.
Don’t set up camp in front of the pinboard. Remember that others want to join in the fun too, you know?
Know the rules
Last but not least, make sure you and any little sidekicks know the pin-trading ABCs.
It’s simple — a pin for a pin. Everyone walks away with a piece of Disney magic. Easy as pie!
So keep an eye out and make sure you’re following those unspoken rules while enjoying pin trading. We’ll keep you up to date with all the latest Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

I don’t agree with Number 1.
9 tines out of 10, they tell me to grab it and put the new one on.
Goofy Dawg says
Added rule…see that cast member wearing the Mickey Silhouette American Flag pin or something similar to that above the name tag or security badge? Please do not ask to trade for that pin. That pin has special meaning for CMs, indicating that they are an Armed Service Veteran or a former First Responder.
