When you study Disney World as much as we do, you learn some very bizarre things that happen around the parks.
For example, did you know there is a code word that signals human remains have been found? 😳. Disney does some unique things to keep the magic alive, and today we’re talking about a weird one — “bagging the fish.” Sound bizarre? Honestly, same, but it’s an important part of the production of a popular show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
During the finale of Fantasmic!, characters from the show float by on a boat, driven by Steamboat Willie.
For safety, these characters then all head inside to take cover right before the fireworks start to go off — with one exception. One of the characters on the boat is Ariel — in mermaid form! Since she has fins, she can’t walk off like the rest of them.
Thankfully, Prince Eric is there to help. Think his job is to carry her off? Nope! Right before exiting the top of the boat himself, he wraps a flame-retardant blanket over her so that she is safely covered and protected from the fireworks. This action is affectionately called “bagging the fish.”
Next time you watch this show, keep an eye on Ariel and Prince Eric if you want to see it happen! In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news.
