If you’re familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), then you’re probably familiar with the ending of Avengers: Endgame.
The final scenes sparked conversation among fans regarding the future of the MCU as we know it, as it showed the funeral of one of Marvel’s most beloved characters: Iron Man. Yep, Endgame left fans spiraling as they debated whether or not Marvel creators would find a way to bring back the hero. Of course they’ll bring back Iron Man, right? Well, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige set the record straight.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Iron Man as we know him (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.) will not be among the characters in the MCU to return to the big screen.
Feige said regarding Iron Man’s final scene, “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
This comes as a shock to many fans, as Marvel has a tendency to bring back characters in some way or another. It’s hard to imagine a world without Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, as the character has been part of the MCU for a total of 10 films. While Feige did seem to confirm that Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the character was seen for the last time in 2019 in Endgame, he didn’t really shut the door on the possibility of another actor’s portrayal.
Feige didn’t provide any insight regarding other characters we might see in the future, but we’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney and Marvel news as we have it. Make sure to follow along so that you’re never out of the loop.
