The Brightline Train to Orlando International Airport is officially up and running.
We’ve even taken the train, and honestly, we think it might be our new favorite way to get to Orlando. However, when the train was first proposed, there was initially supposed to be a stop at Disney Springs, which would take you from the airport directly to Disney Springs quickly and efficiently. However, that plan was scrapped when Disney backed out of the deal. But, wait, because there could be a train coming to Disney Springs, after all!
In 2022, an alternative station was still being planned NEAR Disney Springs, but not on land actually owned by Disney. That’s because the final decision was for the train’s route to use some of SunRail’s existing tracks — this was referred to as the Sunshine Corridor Program. Disney felt that this route would not support a Disney Springs station.
So what about this alternative station NEAR Disney Springs? Well, according to WFTV, a public input session was recently held at the Taft Community Center about the Sunshine Corridor, which is near SunRail’s main line, close to where the proposed route — including the Disney Springs-area station — is located.
Overall, public feedback was mostly positive, with many community members seeing the extension as a good way to get tourists and workers between home and major destinations, while also decreasing car traffic on I4 and other busy roadways.
However, this doesn’t mean we’ll get a Disney Springs-area Brightline station anytime soon. The Florida Department of Transportation still has to do environmental reviews, figure out designs, get funding, and construct the station. All of that could be YEARS away.
Of course, with the new Orlando station being completed and a route to Tampa on the way, it is within the realm of possibility of happening, and two more community meetings will be coming up soon for residents to weigh in.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details as they get released. So stay tuned to DFB for more.

We just took Brightline last week from south Florida and it was fantastic. We ended up taking an Uber to the Dolphin hotel and the whole experience, round trip, was great. Service is outstanding, the train is smooth and quiet plus zero stress. We never really use our car when we’re up there. If they add this planned station, we’ll probably ride the train every time.

if it’s anything like getting transit built where I live maybe this will be built by the time my 12 year old retires.
