If you’ve kept up with Walt Disney Company News, then you know that much of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s focus has been on improving the company’s streaming platform.
Since early 2023, the company has undergone a mass restructuring to shift focus and to reallocate funds to support the improvement of Disney+ and the company’s other streaming assets. In late 2023, the final quarterly earnings call showed that the restructuring seemed to be working, and that Disney is set to profit from Disney+ in late 2024 — for the first time since before the pandemic. Now, another big change is taking place on Disney+, and it has to do with Disney’s recent announcement that they will purchase the remaining shares in Hulu. Can you guess what it is?
Yep, the Hulu on Disney+ beta launch is officially here! It was confirmed during the earnings call that Hulu would soon be available within the Disney+ app, so that you wouldn’t have to switch back and forth between the different platforms to watch your favorite movies and shows. Here’s what you need to know!
Starting on December 6th, Hulu is available on Disney+ for users within the United States and Canada. It’ll be located at the top of the screen along with the Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic tiles.
The important thing to note is that until the official launch in March 2024, Bundle Subscribers will only be able to access a limited number of Hulu titles, as the company troubleshoots and works to “better understand the consumer’s needs and wants when it comes to Hulu on Disney+ before it officially launches in the spring.”
Disney also said that this gives parents time to set up controls and filters to ensure that everyone in the family will only have access to shows and movies deemed appropriate. Joe Earley — Disney Entertainment’s President of Direct-to-Consumer — addressed that Hulu has more adult content than what Disney+ subscribers are probably used to accessing within the app. This is why they stressed the importance of setting up parental controls and part of the reason they decided on a two-step launch.
“There are a few reasons why we think this is going to be an exciting new experience for our subscribers,” Earley said. “Even before the launch of Disney+, research was very clear that consumers want ‘kid time,’ ‘we time,’ and ‘me time.’ I want incredible stuff for my kids, I want to watch things as a family, and then I want to put the kids to bed and watch things that are more adult in nature.”
We can’t wait to explore the beta version of the launch and see all that the bundle has to offer. We’ll continue to keep you updated with all things Disney News, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing!
