Listen. Vacation should be a time to SPLURGE. If you want to indulge in sweet treats for breakfast for a week straight, there will be absolutely no judgment from us.
We typically go into our Disney World vacations with that mindset. A few days into the trip, however, we realize that our stomachs aren’t made of steel. IYKYK. Sometimes you have to opt for the meal with nutritional value, ya know? There are all SORTS of nutritional meals at Disney World that are still super yummy. Whether you’re remedying your past mistakes of sugar splurges, have an allergy or dietary restriction, or simply showed up with a heck ton of self discipline to begin with, we think you’ll love the meal we’re headed to grab. It’s over at Contempo Cafe at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Let’s go!
Contempo Cafe’s Breakfast Tofu Bowl is $9.29 and is a vegan-friendly option that consists of plant-based egg, plant-based sausage crumbles, shredded carrots, a few broccoli pieces, tater tots, and cubes of tofu.
When we received the bowl, it definitely looked hearty and filling. It looked delicious! But… looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to eating plant-based. So… how will it taste?
Let’s start with the tofu. The cubes of tofu could have used a bit more salt, but they were coated in an acidic marinade, so they weren’t entirely tasteless. When we tried a bite with all the ingredients rather than just the tofu, though, the lack of salt on the tofu itself made sense. The sausage was heavily-seasoned, and so the acidity of the tofu complimented the rest of the ingredients nicely. The acidity of the tofu combined with the savory flavor of the sausage and brightness of the vegetables works REALLY well.
Another thing we noticed about this dish was texture. It has all the textures you desire from a typical breakfast skillet, but it also has the crunch and freshness of those veggies, which we LOVED. Seriously, our only complaint is that the tofu is a bit bland if you eat it by itself, but combined with the other ingredients, it’s really good.
We will absolutely get this again, but should YOU? Well, if you’re looking for a vegan or nutritional option that’s going to leave you feeling full and satisfied, we absolutely recommend this. However, if you’re not a fan of tofu or aren’t used to plant-based meals, then you might not enjoy it as much. We totally think it’s worth a try, though, and it’s a good option if you’re new to eating plant-based at Disney World.
