Movies are a big part of the Disney business.
Of course, we all love the parks and experiences, but Disney movies were the company’s foundation, and they continue to be one of the things they do best. 2023 saw several great movies and we anticipate a few more great hits in 2024. But one media analyst doesn’t have high hopes for the coming year.
2023 saw box office hits reaching $1 billion and beyond, such as Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Oppenheimer came extremely close to hitting $1 billion with around $950 million. It was a good year for movies, indeed.
Unfortunately, one analyst has much grimmer expectations for 2024. An anonymous analyst has predicted that not one movie will hit $1 billion in theaters. According to them, only one stands a chance, Despicable Me 4, but with the opportunity to make a prediction anonymously, they’re making the bold claim that not even that one will.
This comes as a bit of a shock to us as Disney has some pretty big-named movies scheduled to release in 2024. The lineup for 2024 includes Inside Out 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, The Amateur (20th Century Studios), Deadpool 3 (Marvel), The First Omen (20th Century Studios), and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (20th Century Studios).
So many of these movies sound great and we’re excited to watch them! (If you’ve seen the trailer for Inside Out 2, you know what we mean!) But according to this analyst, none of them are going to be box office bangers. We’ll just have to wait to find out. They’ll be coming out all through 2024, from January until December. So be sure to head to theaters to catch them on the big screen.

Kind of sad that 1 Billion is now the benchmark for successful movies. According to analysts and critics, if it doesn’t make a billion, it’s not a success even if it’s a good movie.

I’m so tired of extension’s of old movies, and live action recreations. Waiting patiently for something original. I suspect a larger amount of families are streaming or doing pay for view as it’s more affordable. I imagine as time goes on, movies will be geared more toward teens and young adults, and even that will have lifespan.
