A recent airport incident involving Spirit Airlines has been making headlines.
An unaccompanied child ended up on the wrong Spirit Airlines flight, and now, Spirit has responded.
Just recently, Spirit Airlines launched an investigation into an incident involving a 6-year-old boy traveling from Philadelphia to Fort Myers to visit his grandmother. He was “incorrectly boarded” and ended up on a plane going to Orlando.
According to Fox35, that investigation revealed that a gate agent in Philadelphia was responsible for the mix-up. Spirit Airlines stated that the agent escorted the boy to the wrong plane. As a result, that gate agent has been fired.
“This agent is no longer working with Spirit, and any individual whose actions resulted in the incorrect boarding will be held accountable for failing to follow our procedures,” Spirit said. “We are also reiterating our procedures to the team, and we are in communication with the child’s family about this matter.”
The grandmother, Maria Ramos, said that it was the first time the child had ever been on a plane. She waited for him at the Ft. Myers airport, but when he didn’t get off the plane, she approached a flight attendant who informed her that there were no unaccompanied children on that flight. The boy called his grandmother, and after she instructed him to find a uniformed employee, she found out that he was in Orlando rather than in Fort Myers.
At the time, Spirit Airlines sent a statement to Ramos, “We are so sorry for the terrible mistake. (Casper) is a wonderful young man and was extremely polite and very social with our flight attendants and airport team. I am a grandfather myself and would only do for (Casper) as I would do for my own grandchildren. You must be very proud. Merry Christmas to you and your family.” Spirit also reportedly offered to have a driver take Casper to Fort Myers, though Maria Ramos declined according to Fox35.

Mistakes happen and I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. The first mistake was made by the parents who put their SIX YEAR OLD on a flight by himself!!! What we’re these idiots thinking?!? Anything can go wrong and it certainly did here.
With the out of control and unpredictable behavior of passengers these days these PARENTS should be investigated for poor decision making and putting their child in jeopardy.
