If planning your Disney World trip feels like a full-time job, that’s because in some cases — it is.
Keeping track of dining information, hotel reservations, Lightning Lane times, and more can be overwhelming — and don’t even get us started on those pesky ride closures. Refurbishments need to happen to keep attractions running in tip-top shape, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be disappointed when it happens. If you’re heading to Disney World in 2024, you need to know about these multi-month ride closures!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios is a fast-paced coaster that features music and a pre-ride show by Aerosmith. But, beginning January 8th, 2024, the ride will close for a lengthy refurbishment.
Disney hasn’t announced a specific opening date just yet, but the website shows the ride will be closed through summer 2024.
Kali River Rapids
Kali River Rapids in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom will be temporarily closed starting on January 8th, 2024. This isn’t too surprising as Disney often shuts water rides down during winter months.
We don’t have an official reopening date but we know the ride will remain closed until mid-March.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Voyage of the Little Mermaid failed to reopen with the rest of Disney World following the COVID closures, but Disney hadn’t made any announcements on what might happen with this show.
But, Disney announced in December 2023 that a NEW show — “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” — is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024! The new show will be a reimagined show inspired by the original animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The show will
Splash Mountain/Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
This one probably goes without saying, but Splash Mountain is closed forever. However, the mountain is undergoing quite the refurbishment to transform into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Because of this, you’ll have to wait quite a few months to ride this attraction.

There are a handful of attractions that are likely to be next in line for lengthy refurbishments, though Disney hasn’t made any sort of announcements on timelines just yet.
Country Bear Jamboree
Country Bear Jamboree in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be getting a makeover in 2024!
Disney hasn’t announced any sort of timeline for this refurbishment, nor have they said how long it might take. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more announcements and potential updates on this retheme!
Dinosaur
Disney has announced that the DinoLand, U.S.A. area of Animal Kingdom will be undergoing a massive transformation… we just don’t know what yet! But, this means we may have to say goodbye to our beloved Dinosaur attraction.
We don’t have any sort of further details or potential timelines, but as soon as we do we’ll share them with you!
It’s Tough To Be a Bug
We may soon have to say goodbye to another Animal Kingdom attraction, too — It’s Tough To Be a Bug will likely be getting replaced with a new Zootopia show!
Shockingly, we don’t yet have any concrete details or timeline for this one, either.
Test Track
Test Track at EPCOT is also scheduled to get a retheming. Like the other possible closures we’ve mentioned, there is no set timeline to Test Track’s retheme so it’s very possible it remains open all year in 2024 without any refurbishment or closures.
With that said, the chance that Test Track — along with DINOSAUR and It’s Tough to be a Bug! — closes temporarily in 2024 is always a possibility.

So why are ticket prices so high with all of the closures? Those are big rides that will be out of circulation.

I am planning a big family vacation in May. I already have my resort booked. I have tickets but what I would like to know is when will you have all your updated books (I want the fast food book especially) for the Disney World parks available?
I want the most updated one so I can take it with me.
