Every quarter, Disney shares its financial details with the world, detailing how much revenue the parks take in, streaming data, and how much money the company has taken in overall for that quarter.
In 2023, The Walt Disney Company completed a series of company-wide layoffs, and it seems there could be more job cuts in the future.
Reuters is reporting that Pixar Animation Studios is set to cut some jobs. Note that the jobs reportedly being cut are those that are no longer needed after the studio finished work on some shows and movies. Pixar hired extra staff for its Emeryville, California studio to finish some streaming shows. Now that those shows are complete, the studio has more staff than it needs.
Pixar has not yet set a number on how many employees will lose their jobs. However, Reuters‘ source determined that the layoffs were not imminent, and they would not affect future theatrical work and releases.
In 2023, Pixar cut 75 jobs, including the director of Lightyear, which did not do so well at the box office. This was the studio’s first significant round of lay-offs in over ten years.
In 2024, Pixar has several upcoming theatrical releases, including re-releases of Soul, Luca, and Turning Red — films that were released to Disney+ due to the pandemic. Other 2024 releases include Inside Out 2 and Elio. A Toy Story sequel is also in the works.
