The Walt Disney Company has significantly changed since replacing Disney CEO Bob Chapek with Bob Iger. When Iger returned as CEO in 2022, he stated he had a “clear mission focused on creative excellence to inspire generations through unrivaled, bold storytelling.”
At the time, Susan Arnold, Chairman of the Board, stated, “The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.” But what happened to Bob Chapek?
On January 16th, 2024, Masimo, a global medical technology company, announced a new member has joined its Board of Directors. In a press release announcing the news, we learned that Bob Chapek has been appointed to Masimo’s Board of Directors.
Masimo stated, “Mr. Chapek was Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, one of the world’s largest media and entertainment companies, from February 2020 to November 2022, successfully leading Disney through the global COVID-19 pandemic and recovery. Under his leadership, Disney strategically realigned its media and entertainment divisions, expanded the scale and global reach of its streaming services, made transformative changes to its parks and resorts worldwide, and leveraged new and innovative technologies to bring stories to life in more immersive and impactful ways.”
Chapek stated, “I am thrilled to join the Masimo Board,” adding, “I look forward to helping advance the company’s growth by leveraging their core technologies in the consumer and consumer health spaces.” In addition to his time at Disney, Chapek previously worked at H.J. Heinz Company and J. Walter Thompson, where he worked in brand management and advertising.
Chapek has described his time as Disney CEO as “three years of hell.” According to CNBC, “Chapek confided to a friend that his tenure at Disney was ‘about three years of hell,’ defined by one overriding theme: his unrelenting fear that Iger wanted his job back.”
Chapek, however, has “defended his record as Disney CEO” in a statement that was shared with CNBC by a Chapek representative. The spokesperson said, “Bob is proud of the work he did in the course of his 30-year career at Disney, particularly during his nearly three-year run as CEO, steering the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic, and setting the course for business transformation as he and his team took the disruptive yet necessary steps for business revitalization and long-term growth.”
The Chairman and CEO of Masimo, Joe Kiani, said, “We are honored to have Bob join the Board. As we execute our hospital to home strategy, we expect to benefit greatly from Bob’s role on our Board.”
Masimo is described as “a global medical technology company that develops, manufactures, and markets a variety of noninvasive monitoring technologies.” The company’s mission is to “improve life, improve patient outcomes and reduce the cost of care by taking noninvasive monitoring to new sites and applications.”

Chapek is highly skilled at raising prices while complicating the consumer experience. He should fit perfectly in the medical industry!

Only in Corp America can you totally F…up a company, but as long as you have a CEO or President title, it doesn’t count. Boards have amnesia and consistently demonstrate a double standard their employees don’t get to benefit from. Disgusting.
