You might have read that title and thought, “Surely that’s a joke.” We would’ve thought the same thing. But it’s NOT! There really is a gravy-themed roller coaster in the works, and it’s so weird and fun and we’re beyond excited about it. 😂
We’ve talked about this tasty-sounding coaster before, but since it’s opening in just about four months, we thought it was high time to bring it up again and get everyone ready!
The home of the new Good Gravy! Roller Coaster is none other than Holiday World, which totally makes sense for a Thanksgiving-themed ride.
Holiday World is located in Santa Claus, Indiana, and the park has four big sections, each themed to a different holiday: Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving. Good Gravy! is going in the Thanksgiving section, of course! It’ll join other rides in that area like the “Gobbler Getaway,” “The Mayflower,” and “Turkey Whirl.”
What exactly is the story of this ride? We’re glad you asked. The queue for the ride takes you through Grandma’s house, where you’re going to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with everyone. But then you discover that the feast is missing one key component: the GRAVY!
You’ll hop onboard “the world’s largest gravy boat” (which is a sentence we never thought we’d type) to help make more of Grandma’s famously good gravy.
We got a sneak peek at these amazing gravy boats at IAAPA in 2023, and now we want to ride in these more than ever.
On your journey, you’ll encounter gigantic kitchen tools like a whisk and a rolling pin. You might fly past some stuffing as well. Oh, and did we mention that you’ll get to ride through a tunnel that’s a giant can of cranberry jelly?! That’s it — we’re sold.
Holiday World’s website said, “You’ll travel forward up a seven-stories-tall spike then backward to make more gravy and save Thanksgiving dinner!” This is starting to sound a little extreme! Just check out this concept art of the huge “spike.”
Here are all the numbers:
- Good Gravy! is 1,500 feet in length and 77 feet tall at the highest point.
- The coaster has a 38″ height requirement.
- Those gravy boats are really MOVING — top speed is 37 miles per hour.
- Each train has ten two-person coaches.
- The ride lasts about 1 minute and 5 seconds.
Now all that’s left to know is WHEN can we finally ride this thing?! Good Gravy! is set to open at Holiday World in May 2024. Meet us there?
As if this whole concept weren’t wild enough, are you ready for one more mid-blowing fact? Good Gravy! is being built by the same company that brought TRON Lightcycle / Run to life in Magic Kingdom. Wow, do they have a diverse portfolio of coasters!
Stay tuned to DFB, and we’ll make sure to let you know about all the food-themed coasters out there!

Our family has been to Holiday World and it was wonderful! The park and themes were adorable. I would love to ride a gravy boat coaster. We even ate our lunch in the Thanksgiving area and had a delicious Thanksgiving meal in June! All the employees were so friendly. I highly recommend this park, and a bonus, soft drinks are free all day, parking too! This is an amazing park!

I live 30 minutes away from Holiday World and even have had season passes in the past. Free soft drinks, free sunscreen, a water park is included and they add a new ride each year. They also win the cleanest award about every year. This ride is just one of the most unusual ones they have. But they also have some really awesome wooden rollercoasters. And don’t forget the Thunderbird! I am a huge Disney fan with Annual Passes, but Holiday World is a local favorite!

This should be a very fun ride. Vekoma has been making some great family coasters in the U.S. lately. Most of their modern extreme coasters are in other countries, but a couple are in production in Texas and New Jersey. A tip for anyone going to Holiday World: go on a weekday if you can! It will still be very crowded, but weekends are unbelievably insane. If you think Disney gets long lines, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve been to Holiday World on weekends, and their lines move at a snail’s pace.
