You don’t have to look very hard to see what we love about Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs.
While we’re always excited to see what new offerings they come up with, help celebrate their big milestones at Disney World, and occasionally snag a special menu item (or two), not everything is as perfect as we would like it to be. If we could have things our way, there are a few changes we’d opt to make to Gideon’s Bakehouse that we think would make a lot of sense!
Ok, our first gripe with Gideon’s Bakehouse has to do with a newly returned offering to Disney World. Since the Disney Dining Plan’s epic return, people have been really looking for the best values to spend their snack entitlements in the parks and while visiting Disney Springs.
While lots of locations around Disney Springs accept the Disney Dining Plan snack credits, Gideon’s Bakehouse, sadly, isn’t a participating location. This means that if you’re hoping to spend all those prepaid credits to pick up a few of their delicious fresh-baked cookies, you’ll need to start making plans to spend them elsewhere. I mean, we can’t blame you, we’d totally be doing the same thing if these were eligible!
Since Gideon’s Bakehouse isn’t compatible with the Disney Dining Plan in any capacity currently, you’ll need to plan to pay for the items you’re snagging here. Here’s to hoping that they may opt to participate in the future, but as it stands right now we’re simply left to budget for our cookie haul for the time being.
Speaking of a cookie haul, this brings up another good point — transportation. Currently, Gideon’s Bakehouse doesn’t offer any shipping options on any of their goodies.
While we can certainly understand there would be some cost and probably a few logistical things behind the scenes to make this possible, it’s simply a dream at this point. The Gideon’s Bakehouse owner is extremely committed to quality — as is evident by his products — and he has shared before that he has no plans for his bakery to try to meet national demand. If you’re looking for a way to avoid those notoriously long lines for these tasty morsels, we don’t have any alternate options to offer you.
In short, the only way you can get your hands on their delicious cookies, cakes, and sweet treats is to swing by their store in person, place your order, and pick them up all on your own. But don’t forget that there IS another location (the original location, actually) in Orlando, at the East End Market food hall. Waits there are a fraction of what they are at Disney Springs — in fact, we’ve walked right up to the counter with no wait at all occasionally! Read this for more details on the East End Market Gideon’s!
We think these two changes could make a huge impact on how we’re able to enjoy picking up treats from Gideon’s Bakehouse and we’re not ready to give up hope just yet that either is out of the running. Only time will tell though at this point as we dream. Be sure to check back in with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest in menu updates, changes, and more from Disney World!

Steve will never ship his cookies, so I’m afraid that’s out of the question. Not only is his bakery too small to meet demand, he can’t guarantee the goodies would make it to your door intact! It’s just against his entire MO for Gideon’s. However, I would LOVE to see a virtual queue that you could join online, or even just an approximate wait time online so we could plan our DS time better. I have yet to time the VQ properly for hot cookie hour!

Including Gideon’s in the dining plan is a very bad idea. The demand and lines are long-enough as they are. The volume would dramatically increase with the dining plan. If someone wants to use the dining plan bad enough at Gideon’s, it should be worth signature sit-down dining credits!

I have never been there in spite of reputation, and in spite of being a downtown Disney multiple times each year. I’m happy the owners pleased with how things are going. But I’m never gonna stand in that line for a cookie. There ought to be a better way for distribution, and that would include more points of distribution, including perhaps a food truck.

They could expand their shop if possible to allow more people in.

Why on earth would Gideons consider either of these when they have a constant stream of customers (revenue) with their current store model?
What could they gain from offering cookies for a snack credit, other than less revenue from Disney in exchange for the snack credit?

Oooh, would LOVE mail-order! But I guess that would be a MASSIVE change in business direction. Still, nice to dream while waiting for CakeBake.

Gideons, PLEASE add just a coffee line or coffee window! I love your cookies, but I’ll stop every time just for a PB cold brew!
