Every Disney World hotel has its own pros and cons — even the Deluxe Resorts. Sure, Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort is stunning, but it’s also preeeeety expensive. And yes, Disney’s BoardWalk Hotel is conveniently steps away from the EPCOT park entrance, but right now, it’s also under construction.
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, booking the right hotel can play a BIG part in your vacation. Does your hotel have the amenities you need to easily get to and from the parks? Is your hotel quiet enough to get a peaceful sleep? Does the cost fit in your budget? Here’s something else to consider: do you mind staying at a hotel that’s under refurbishment?
OK, let’s back up for a second. Parts of Disney’s BoardWalk Hotel are currently under refurbishment. While parts of the project are already complete, there is still quite a bit of work to be done around the resort.
For example, we’re still waiting for Disney to announce the opening date for its NEW Cake Bake Shop Restaurant, a table service dining spot by Gwendolyn Rogers.
In addition to the new restaurants, look out for new carpet, hallways, and decor throughout the hotel. As you can see, there are quite a few construction walls up around the hotel, so if you prefer not to look at construction equipment on vacation, you may want to consider another hotel.
But why are we talking about all this construction right now? Well, we recently spoke with a BoardWalk Cast Member who shared an important reminder about upcoming resort stays. According to the Cast Member, some DVC Villas are still under refurbishment, and construction is going on longer than Disney originally expected.
The Cast Member also confirmed that due to the ongoing construction, there is a possibility that guests may need to move rooms. Note that there’s no guarantee that your stay at the BoardWalk Hotel will be impacted by construction, but if select DVC Villas are still under construction longer than anticipated, guests may need to switch rooms. Disney hasn’t shared an exact construction end date, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we know more.
Of course, if your hotel stay is impacted by construction, a Disney World Cast Member will take care of those room changes, so all you have to do is sit back and let them do the work! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

We were due to stay in a new DVC villa from 1st Dec last year. We were told a few days beforehand that they wouldn’t be ready and so they’d be putting us in Club Level. Couldn’t really complain 😁

We had a 2 bedrooms DVC Villa for 5 night and I can confirm that it smelled strong paint. Also there were a lot of construction workers coming in and out of the hotel. When you add the noise, it wasn’t a great stay at all.

I wish DVC would expand the Boardwalk. It’s so popular and difficult to get a reservation.

Why does the construction of hotel rooms, new restaurants, and new rides in the Parks take so LONG? My goodness, this is Disney World! I hope the Boardwalk work is done by the time I arrive in mid-March. My daughter and her family will never return with me if it is chaos. That makes me sad. I want to share and enjoy the fun with my grandchildren.

I was at the Boardwalk for the week of January 14. The whole wing to the left when you enter the villa side from the lobby was completely closed off for construction. Only operating with essentially half the rooms.

Our upcoming mid-April stay in a Boardwalk view 2BR villa has already been moved to a 2BR pool view. Not exactly what we wanted since we love the Boardwalk view to people watch (especially for my elderly mom who doesn’t go into the parks as much anymore).

Does anyone have a pic of a finished undated 1 br Boardwalk Villa? I just hope the theme is not too “generic hotel” looking and they preservesd the charm that is the Boardwalk. We love staying there!
Anyone remember the Amazing John and Boadwalk Buskers? They were absolutely hilarious. My Dad and I would catch every show, and laugh heartily and the same jokes, over and over. Those are some of my all time favorite Disney World memories.

My wife and I stayed here during the Holidays and it smelled very strong paint in the room – We had to sleep with the windows opened and when we tried to get the extra blanket it was moldy with a strong gross scent as well. they changed us to a different resort and it was very annoying to deal with. I would have though they couldn’t deliver rooms that have been freshly painted like this..

I was called by guest services a few weeks ago informing me that my 1 bedroom Villa in March may not be ready due to construction delays. They offered to put me up in a Inn room instead with a $100 daily credit. Although the credit was a great gesture it still doesn’t make up for the amenities i will be loosing.
