While visiting Disney World, it’s often inevitable that you’ll face some sort of rainy weather throughout your stay.
In Central Florida, it isn’t uncommon for small storms to roll through during the afternoons. And, of course, there’s a possibility that you’ll face hurricanes (mostly during the fall) and other storm systems throughout the year due to the parks’ proximity to the ocean. Well, folks, there seems to be some not-so-great weather headed to Disney World this weekend, and you need to be prepared!
According to Fox35 Orlando, there’s a “southern soaker” headed straight for Orlando this weekend, and there’s a good chance that Disney World could be affected.
Meteorologists said that a “southern soaker” low-pressure system will “barrel through the region this weekend, bringing 1″-2″ of rain on Sunday. This will have an impact on any outdoor activities.” They also said that as of right now, the threat is still very low, as the temperature and moisture look too low on Sunday to pose a storm threat. It’ looks like it’ll just be a wet day.
There IS a rainbow in all of this rain, though. (Bad joke? Maybe.) Throughout the week, folks in the park can expect to experience comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and all the sunshine. They said that the afternoons will reach “room temperature readings” after cool mornings. It sounds like theme park bliss!
However, if you’ll be in the parks throughout Sunday, be sure to prepare. Pack your ponchos and rain jackets, don’t wear close-toed shoes that’ll get all soggy, and prepare for potential closures of outdoor rides. Usually, rides don’t close for rain and rain alone. However, if there is lightning in the area, they have to close to protect the Cast Members and visitors.

Rainy days are some of the best days to visit the parks, believe it or not. You can often find lower crowds as folks are trying to stay dry in their hotel rooms. This isn’t a bad time to hop in line for those rides that have notoriously long waits in a mostly-indoor queue. (Avatar: Flight of Passage, we’re looking at you!)
It’s also not a bad idea to plan for a worst case scenario where you might just have a chill hotel day. We like to pack playing cards, travel-sized board games, and of course, there are often hotel activities that you can partake in while the rain passes.
