No matter how much planning you put into it, things can still go wrong on your Disney World trip.
You could run into bad weather, miss out on that dining reservation, and in rare cases — be forced to evacuate a ride that has broken down. And, for folks in Magic Kingdom this morning, that’s exactly what happened!
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is an iconic Magic Kingdom ride, but it’s not without troubles! We’ve seen it go down for minor and major refurbishments, and this morning, we happened to see folks being evacuated from the ride.
We were perusing Tomorrowland Launch Depot when we spotted some folks being escorted off the ride by a Cast Member! The ride continued to remain down shortly after.
Not only that, but we noticed that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was also broken down with guests on it this morning. As we passed by on the PeopleMover (before it broke down) we were able to see people stopped in ride vehicles with the lights turned on.
No matter what, make sure you pay attention to the information and directions Cast Members give you — they’re trained to keep you safe in situations like this!

Hello again.
I am the one who commented about the terror I suffered when Spaceship Earth broke down in Jan. You didn’t accept my comment and probably won’t accept this one either. So this bit of a joke is just for you. I had the cast members busting out laughing when I told them that the people are going to start calling the people mover the people stopper because that is mainly what it does.

My best friend and I were evacuated from Spaceship Earth. I was thankful we hadn’t gotten very far up. When all the inside lights came on, we saw things on the wall coming down, that you never see in the dark. We laughed and enjoyed the walk down.

The PeopleMover deserves better than this and the last several years have not been kind. Disney needs to stop doing band-aid fixes and do a complete replacement at this point. An attraction as simple as this should not be plagued with guest evacuations. Rather than expanding the park, maintaining and improving the existing attractions would be wonderful.

Yes, when we were at Hollywood Studios in December, we decided to ride Minnie and Mickeys Runaway railroad as our last ride of the evening. We were just getting underway, listening to “Nothing Can StopUs now” as the ride suddenly stopped. It was truly the perfect ending to a day fraught with ride breakdowns. In fact, we tried to ride Tower of Terror twice, only to get in line and have it break down both times. But we stopped by Customer Relations on our way out of the park and got a pass to use at our next park. Since the following day was our rest day, they were nice enough to make the pass for two days away!

I love Disney World, but am noticing more and more ride break downs (MK, EPCOT & Studios) than I have in past years, as well as things that just need to be fixed. Such as all the fun interactive devices in the Big Thunder Railroad queue; the green Matrix-like lights on Spaceship Earth and the interactive screens in the vehicles on that ride; Dormouse not coming out of the teapot on the Tea Cups ride. And while this isn’t related to rides, I’ve been in quite a few bathrooms with non-functioning door latches.
Please, Disney, bring things in all four parks back up to your usual standards before building new attractions.
