You heard right, Disney is teaming up with the creators of ‘Fortnite’ to bring us something we’ve never seen from the company before!
In Disney’s Q1 Earnings Call for 2024, Bob Iger mentioned several new concepts and ideas in store for The Walt Disney Company. One of those that was quick to grab our interest was the idea of Disney collaborating with Epic Games.
According to an article by The OC Register, When Bob Iger was talking about the brainstormed project, he referenced a conversation with Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro where they discussed ways to integrate Disney intellectual property into Fortnite games.
Eventually the question, “What if we create a gigantic Disney World à la Fortnite that could live next to Fortnite and be completely interconnected with it?” was posed. “A world where people can play games that we create and could create their own games,” Iger shared. Their announcement from the earnings call seemed to hint at an almost metaverse world where entertainment, shopping, and even gameplay would be possible.
Based on the initial rendering of concept art shared by Disney we could expect to see the budding Fortnite partnership look like an online theme park with multiple Disney castles, a central hub surrounded by several islands populated with visual nods to familiar Disney IPs and franchises including MARVEL, Pixar, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox along with several others.
Additionally, this would mark an incredible milestone for The Walt Disney Company heading full speed ahead into the gaming atmosphere. “Our new relationship with Epic Games will create a transformational games and entertainment universe that integrates Disney’s world-class storytelling into Epic’s cultural phenomenon Fortnite, enabling consumers to play, watch, create, and shop for both digital and physical goods,” Iger stated. “This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of video games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion.”
It’s that last thing Bob Iger referenced that really makes our ears perk up. If we’re going to be seeing so much of Disney in a ‘Fortnite’ community from this collaboration, it seems reasonable that this deal could mean some semblance of Fortnite in the Disney parks (even if further in the future!)
We’ve seen this in other major theme park players lately and go on to prove very successful for brands like Universal with Nintendo when they partnered to create Super Nintendo World. Could we even go on to see a land expansion for this particular collaboration? While there’s still a lot up in the air about this partnership and what this will truly look like when it’s ready to be unveiled to the public, we think it’s worth keeping an eye on for sure.

Ugh. Not interested in an online theme park. And I suspect few are.

That’s a hard NO. No thanks

Bob, I’M NOT INTERESTED EITHER. I am so tired with Iger supporting all these projects and paying for them by raising prices on THE PARK GUESTS. Disney was made by the PARKS AND THE MONEY WE SPEND IN THE PARKS. Give us a break. Throw us a bone. Eliminate the COSTLY AND INCONVENIENT GENIE PLUS AND INDIVIDUAL ATTRACTION. A one day ticket into the park costs close to $150 and that gives us guests the ability to enter the park, wait on line for hours and use the restroom. If we want life in the park to be just a little easier, we must PAY MORE MONEY FOR GENIE PLUS AND INDIVIDUAL ATTRACTION . Please eliminate them.
