The hustle and bustle of the Disney World theme parks can be a LOT. That makes Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground a fan-favorite place to stay within the Disney magic while still being surrounded by the peace and quiet of nature.
Many folks are STOKED about The Cabins at Fort Wilderness, which are set to open on July 1st, 2024. These 350 (!!!) Disney Vacation Club cabins each sleep up to six folks and will provide a refreshed, modernized cabin experience to replace the former ones. We’d seen glimpses of the Cabins as well as concept art, but we hadn’t yet seen the nitty gritty. Now, though, Disney has changed that for us!
Disney just shared an all-new YouTube video that explores the intricate details of the new cabins. They shared five things that they’re most excited for visitors to check out when they arrive to the cabins. Let’s talk about it!
1. Mickey’s Trailer
The first detail that Disney showcased was the artwork that is featured on the wall that transforms into a Murphy bed. The artwork shows Mickey and Pluto arriving to a Fort Wilderness Cabin, but that’s not all. There’s actually an Easter egg here!
This artwork was inspired by Mickey’s Trailer, an animated short that debuted in 1938. The little camper/trailer that Mickey is tugging along behind him was inspired by the short!
2. Canoe Paddles
Did you know that you can rent canoes and paddles while staying at Fort Wilderness? Yep! You totally can! Disney wanted to reference this and give it more of a “lodge” feel by putting canoe paddles in the cabins. Take note of thee color, though.
The canoe paddles are inspired by the colors of beloved Disney characters’ outfits! You’ll see ones inspired by Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the Fab 5.
3. River Country
Some of the art in the cabins features postcards from River Country.
River Country was the very first water park at Disney World, located along the shores of Bay Lake and near Discovery Island. It was themed to resemble an old-fashioned swimming hole, and had some authentic country theming. The water park closed indefinitely in 2001, and three years later, it was announced that it would be closed for good. The post cards reference the old water park!
4. Storage and Other Nifty Things
Disney showcased each of the mindful details that might make your stay a bit easier. For example, there are storage drawers underneath the beds, step stools in the bathrooms for little ones, and there are charging ports built into the lanterns next to the bunk beds.
Now, the pain of not being able to reach your phone while it’s charging while sleeping in a bunk bed will not be an issue!
5. Chip ‘n’ Dale Everywhere!
The Cabins truly pay tribute to some of our favorite critters: Chip and Dale!
Throughout the hotel rooms, you’ll be able to spot the duo in artwork, curtains, and sketched on a mural behind the bunk beds. This adds such a playful touch that we think kids will LOVE.

They could have made them with 2 bathrooms and a few with 2 bedrooms. I really liked the theming with the western look. These look beachy to me. So are all the Ft. Wilderness Cabins going to be DVC’s?

They are not CABINS! Cabins are rustic. These are just horrible!
