Disney World is going through a serious transformation that will bring new rides, restaurants, hotel rooms, and experiences to the park and beyond.
Between the construction in EPCOT, the work on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom, and even the new Polynesian Resort building, it’s a lot to keep up with. And, we just spotted a new permit that’s a pretty major indicator that some HUGE construction changes are coming soon to Disney Springs!
A new permit has been filed for work at the former NBA Experience in Disney Springs!
This expansive space was previously the home of DisneyQuest, a four-story video gaming extravaganza, and it was later turned into the NBA Experience. After the pandemic, this attraction never re-opened with Disney confirming it was officially closed for good in 2021. The space was briefly home to a virtual Star Wars experience, but other than that has mostly remained empty.
But, a whopping four years later, it looks like Disney is finally deciding to do something with the NBA Experience. And, with this being such a large space, the opportunities could be nearly endless. The permit is specifically for “general construction/demo,” so we know at least part if not all of the building will undergo some form of demolition. What comes next for the space is anyone’s (okay maybe not Disney’s) guess!
We do know that Disney recently announced a partnership with Fortnite — could we see a new video game experience in this space? Of course, with Disney Springs being a shopping and dining destination, we could also see something along those lines put into this space. Either way, we’ll be keeping an eye out for udpates.

Bring back DisneyQuest. Mom that never plays video games, but I LOVED DisnryQuest!!!
Lois Pierce says
I agree with MamaWendy. Disney Quest was so much fun. We would always spend a day there on our trips. It was almost like a mini theme park.

Disney Quest was so much fun on a rainy day. It really needs to come back in some form.
Michelle says
I agree – bring back DisneyQuest! It was a great way to spend a non park day/rainy day/too hot day and I loved all the options of old video games and interactive games.
Kimberly Schaefer says
Disney Quest should have never been replaced. NBA Experience should have stayed at ESPN

Bring back Disney Quest! So much fun! They want Disney Springs to be an entertainment destination and what better way than to bring back the fun? I would also LOVE to have The VOID return. It was the absolute best Augmented Reality experience. I know the company went bankrupt and closed all its sites around the world, but someone should pick the technology and open again. It was the most immersive experience I’ve even had – the closest I’ll ever get to actually being a jedi LOL

I think everyone other than Disney leadership knew that the NBA Experience would quickly fail. While Disney Quest was an entertaining concept, anything that’s a paid admission in Disney Springs is a tough sell because people are surrounded by the parks. Anything other than shopping and dining is destined to fail.

Never knew why Disney dumped Disney Quest. It offered entertainment for the whole family. The NBA Experience was a flop because it only appealed to a specific demographic – which was so short-sighted of Disney. I just hope that the replacement is not anything to do with Star Wars or Marvel
Sybil says
Bring back Disney Quest!! Please!!!!
Frances says
I would laugh my butt off if they plan to build a Disney Quest-ish thing with Fortnite 😂😂😂😂
The irony!!
Mike says
Build a Fifth Park Instead !
Rebecca says
Mama Wendy, we loved it too!

Something visually related and technically interesting would be great as part of the space. I agree there are lots of adults with their kids that could benefit and the gaming generation is growing up but still gaming! it is about an experience but at different levels especially with more product development coming to the consumer.
Rebecca says
Agree with pretty much everyone else – bring back Disney Quest!! We loved that place. Never understood why they replaced with, especially with NBA? Why? They could have updated but still kept all the fun there. Hope they do something great with the space.

And here I thought I was the only person still pouting over the loss of Disney Quest. Husband and I LOVED the Pirates.
