Here’s our confession… The It’s Tough To Be A Bug attraction scares us a little.

But nevertheless, we persisted and ventured to check in on it yesterday! We found something even more interesting that we’ve never experienced before!
Perhaps the scariest part of the entire attraction, the Hopper animatronic, was missing yesterday! The Hopper animatronic looks like this and comes out during a very specific scene of the show!
It’s Tough To Be A Bug
When we went on it yesterday, the scene looked like this!
The Hopper animatronic did not come out at all during this scene. It could be that he wasn’t working and the show went into B-Show instead, which would explain why his animatronic didn’t show up.

Certain Disney attractions have B-Show modes, modes that are switched to when animatronics or show effects stop working. Rise of The Resistance has this when the Kylo Ren animatronic doesn’t go and he’ll pop up on the screen in his ship instead!

We’ll keep you updated on whether or not the Hopper animatronic returns, we’re hoping he was just tired that show and was taking a much needed rest!

When we were there last April Hopper was missing, too. We thought it was temporary but maybe not?!
Both the Hopper AND Flick Animatronics were pretty sketchy when we were there two weeks ago – their mouths were barely moving, if at all.
He wasn’t there when I went in December, either.
I’ve only seen it’s tough to be a bug twice. Once in February 2022 and the second in October 2023. Both times, the Hopper animatronic was not there. From my experiences I took it as it broke down a lot but asking a cast member the second visit, she told me it was up earlier that week. I guess I just have really bad luck when it comes to seeing that animatronic.
What I was told is that Hopper kept breaking down, and since Disney is replacing It’s Tough to be a Bug, they aren’t going to fix him. They also didn’t bring down the spiders, either. We only got an image of spiders on the screen.
