Could some immediate change be coming to Disneyland?
It’s no secret that the Disneyland Resort has been planning an expansion for a few years now with the DisneylandForward project proposal. Ever since the January 2024 Anaheim City Council meeting where Disney went more in-depth on the expansion’s potential plans, budget, and community offerings, we’ve gotten even more clarity on what DisneylandForward is all about. Recently, more information has come to light with news of Disney looking to purchase some more local land.
According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland officials are looking to buy three (3) local streets, including the popular Magic Way.
Disneyland officials have stated that the 1,150-foot road on the west side of the Disneyland Resort is mostly used by resort guests and that 99% of vehicle trips on the street are Disney-related. Per The Orange County Register, Disney acquired data after community feedback during the January council meeting that concluded “less than 100 non-Disney users” use the street to bypass traffic during peak hours per day.
Disney is looking to buy Magic Way in addition to Clementine Street and Hotel Way from the city of Anaheim. DisneylandForward’s $40 million budget to buy city streets is one small piece of the minimum $1.9 billion investment Disney has committed to the Disneyland Resort and the city in exchange for theme park resort expansion flexibility. These street purchases would, according to Disney representatives, result in better pedestrian and bicycle crossing options.
A vote on the DisneylandForward proposal could be coming quickly. The Orange County Register noted that the Planning Commission is expected to vote on the proposal during its next meeting on March 11th, 2024.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates on the DisneylandForward proposal as they unfold as well as all the latest from the Disneyland Resort, so stay tuned!

Unfortunately, Disneyland doesn’t have acres of unused adjacent land to build and expand on, like Disney World does. Walt Disney didn’t realize that the surrounding land would be bought up by developers, so they were eventually boxed in before they could buy more land. So now they have to buy occupied property from the city and private owners if they want to expand. But I’m sure it will all work out.

Well, I saw a story on my local news this morning that the residents of Anaheim are none too pleased with this scheme. I guess we’ll see how this falls out.
