Even though Moana is relatively new as far as the Disney Princesses are concerned, she is absolutely among the most popular.
Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana
Fans of the movie and character were STOKED in 2023 when Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana opened in EPCOT and a live-action remake of the film was announced. At the Q1 earnings call for fiscal 2024, fans and shareholders alike were stunned by the announcement of Moana 2! Well, the announcement in itself wasn’t the shocking part. The SHOCKING part is the fact that the movie will debut in theaters THIS November. Yes, like, 10-months-from-now November. While we’re SUPER excited, we’re also a bit… concerned.
Disney shared that the new movie stems from what was originally planned as a Disney+ series that was announced in 2020. So, while we’re assuming that the animation and artwork is already done for the film, and it has been confirmed that Dwayne Johnson is in talks to return for his role as Maui, those are basically the only details that Disney gave us as far as production goes.

Well, aside from a trailer that lasted about 17 seconds.
On Instagram, Auli’i Cravalho did confirm that she would return to voice Moana. But like, that’s ALL that has been confirmed as casting goes.

So, isn’t it a bit concerning that Disney still hasn’t confirmed all casting?! Of course, if the animation is complete for the film it probably doesn’t take as long to record the voice acting to go along with said animation. But then again, we’re not animators or film producers.

I’m worried because Lin-Manuel Miranda is not returning to write the songs.
As long as Moana and Maui are cast then that’s what’s important. They can bring in other actors that we have no idea who they are and get the movie done. I didn’t know who Auli’i Cravalho was and she rocked it.
