Another CHANGE has happened in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District effective immediately.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has decided to make another change ahead of election time amid the Disney lawsuit feud in Central Florida. He’s appointed one of his Republican allies to an integral position that could affect the upcoming Floridian and national elections.
Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed his fellow Republican official Glen Gilzean the new supervisor of elections for Orange County. Gilzean previously served as administrator over the Central Florida Oversight District. This is the district that replaced the former Reedy Creek Improvement District that was once run by Disney.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Gilzen is the former president and CEO of the Central Florida Urban League and was chosen by the DeSantis-appointed board last year to oversee the new district control.
Gilzen’s appointment is effective immediately in this role and will only last until whoever the winner of the election in November officially takes office in January 2025. Currently, Gilzean is not listed as a candidate himself and has no prior experience with running or overseeing elections.
It appears the Governor’s office and Gilzen are remaining mum on this new appointment. Aside from an official announcement about the appointment, Orlando Sentinel also reported that further attempts to connect with both have turned up no comments further, however, their latest post did mention that Gilzen wrote a quick note on a Facebook post stating that “Paula Hoisington, deputy district administrator, would serve as acting district administrator during his ‘unavailability.’”
It’s unclear at this time if Gilzean plans to resign from his job with the district or intends to take a leave of absence. The governor’s unsigned announcement about the appointment also anticipates the transition to be complete over a week. In his new role, Gilzen will be responsible for overseeing multiple elections including the Florida GOP presidential primary and elections in eight municipalities coming up on March 19th, 2024 which early voting has already begun. Gilzean will also oversee the upcoming August primaries and the November general election in the fall.
Since the news of his appointment, five other Democrat officials have already thrown their hats into the running for the open spot which includes one Republican and one Independent candidate among them in the primarily democratic Orange County of Florida.
It will be interesting to see who will be appointed to fill Gilzean’s former position and what move he will make next. Be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest as we learn more!

Any time I see DeSatan’s name on this site I know it means more gubernatorial interference in the management of Florida’s number one tourist attraction and revenue producer. At least Ronnie will be history in less than two year’s.

This loser quit early and he can’t beat the mighty mouse. With this move he ensures his place in history as a bitter, petty, vindictive politician. Which means, he’s perfect for ’28.
