Hi. Former Disney World Cast Member here. The life of a Disney Cast Member is pretty unique — your day consists of waving bubble wands around, talking to a mouse, and pressing buttons to make elephants spin around in the sky. But Cast Members clock in and clock out just like the rest of the world, which means they covet that precious lunch break just like us.
So, remember how we said the job has some unique aspects? Well, when you’re a Magic Kingdom Cast Member, guess what you can get for lunch? Magic Kingdom food! But you’ve probably never seen a Haunted Mansion Cast Member in line at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, right?
We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Cast Members are hiding all over the place! Disney has some pretty strict rules about where you can go when you’re in your costume.
It certainly doesn’t make sense for a colonial Cast Member to be in Tomorrowland at Cosmic Ray’s, right? Well, Cast Members have to eat, too, and while they don’t HAVE to buy Disney food, it’s gotta be pretty tempting to go grab a Cheeseburger Spring Roll on break, right? So what is the solution? Going incognito!
Yep, turns out you may actually be standing in line for food right behind a Cast Member! We’re not here to EXPOSE anyone, so we won’t share our go-to tricks for quickly going undercover, but if you were wondering if that Jungle Cruise Skipper you met ever grabs a snack from Adventureland, the answer is probably “yes.”
That said, (lunch)time is limited, so most Cast Members don’t even try to travel very far for their food. Between the long lines for food and the crowds you have to navigate, most Cast Members only venture onstage (a.k.a. in the park) if they think they can secure the meal in under ten minutes. Oh, and you probably won’t see any Cast Members eating on stage, either. Most take their food backstage (for a little peace and quiet…and air conditioning!).
We’re gonna chalk this up as a MAJOR perk of being a Cast Member. Speaking from experience, there’s no better feeling than snacking on some nachos from the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT on a lunch break. It certainly beats a packed lunch, right?
So, there you go. If you’ve ever wondered what Cast Members do for lunch, now you know. They’re just like us! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Hmmm…. That’s a great question! I would hope to be near Columbia Harbor House I think. It is a lovely part of the park, and if I couldn’t get backstage with my food, then there are places in and near CHH that could probably be a spot to hide away and get some precious moments of peace. There’s a variety of food available there, a little different from the normal theme park fare.
