Disney World is a BIG place where LOTS of things happen on the daily. It can be hard to bring you “the most exciting” updates or highlights because there is truly just so much that occurs day in and day out.
That’s one of the reasons we love it so much! There always seems to be something NEW to do or see, and even when we’re doing the same park walks or rides that we do every day — each experience is just a little different. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Disney days are like snowflakes. No two are the same. Anyway, instead of rounding up a themed list of things that happened at Disney World this week, I’m here to bring you three totally unrelated things that happened at Disney World this week that the team just wanted to share with you. Read on!
The news this week actually does have one thing in common: everything sort of “happened” in Magic Kingdom. Let’ head in!
Someone spent their 101st Birthday in Magic Kingdom
According to Fox 35, Frances Belko recently visited Disney World for her 101st birthday. We can’t imagine a better way to celebrate, especially since both The Walt Disney Company and Belko were both born in 1923. She is our Disney Adult #goals. Belko said, “Everything is good in Disney,” adding, “You walk around, you see everything, and you have that nice parade.”
Belko was accompanied on her trip by her granddaughter, Kelly DeSalvo, and their family. They even themed their day to 101 Dalmations — you know, because Beklo turned 101. SO clever! Belko even got to spend some time with Mickey. Yes, we’re still going to want Mickey hugs when we’re 101, too. Her secret to a long, happy life? exercise and “just keep on going from day to day and make the best of everything.” But she also lives for Diet Coke, chocolate (especially Hershey’s Kisses), and ice cream. I’m not crying… you are.

We’re not done yet, though! Let’s head to Frontierland.
We got a CLUE that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is almost COMPLETE!
Disney has announced that the new Magic Kingdom ride will open this summer, and now that we’re in March, we’re getting close to that opening time! We recently spotted a huge clue that the ride might open sooner than we expected. Disney started to take down the scaffolding towards the top of the mountain, and now even MORE has come down! There’s practically no scaffolding at all on the top of the mountain and just a bit on either side.
Bit by bit, that scaffolding is being taken down as Disney gets ready for the grand opening this summer. All the greenery looks gorgeous on the mountain. We love the big trees around it and the flowers on the top! Disney has also started testing the ride vehicles, which look very similar to the ones used for Splash Mountain. We’ve frequently seen water running through the ride. We absolutely cannot WAIT to go on this ride. We’re on the edge of our seats. 🤩

Finally, we’re gonna talk about something a little LESS exciting. Spring break crowds have officially arrived, and y’all need to be prepared!
Crowds are HERE!
Spring Break crowds have arrived in full force and we’ve been keeping an eye on what that means for your upcoming trip. We’ve seen park pass reservations fill up for ticket holders and hotel guests, and Genie+ has reached its highest price yet again — along with the multi-park option selling out more than once as well.
This week alone we’ve seen reservations fill up in multiple parks, including today, March 14th. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios are SOLD OUT to ticket holders and hotel guests who don’t already have park pass reservations. Not only that, but the standard Genie+ price has continued to sit at its highest yet — with the Magic Kingdom and the multi-park options at $35 per person, EPCOT at $28, Hollywood Studios at $32, and Animal Kingdom at $25.
Later, by 10:45AM, the multi-park Genie+ option had sold out. Unfortunately, it gets worse. Every single Individual Lightning Lane in Disney World was sold out by 9:30AM! That’s TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Rise of the Resistance, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Flight of Passage. If you’re heading to the parks for an upcoming trip, make sure you’re ready to snag Genie+ at midnight and those Individual Lightning Lanes at 7AM.

Of course, this doesn’t even begin to touch the other magical messes we got into this week! (Where I come from, getting into messes is always a good, fun thing.) Check out the links below to see what else is new in the Disney Parks.

I’m curious to see what WDW deems as “summer” for the opening of the Tiana re-theme. I’d be excited if it was open by the time my husband and I go towards the end of August (18-22), because it’s going to be HOT in Florida that time of year.
