Y’all, we’ve seen some things in Disney World.
Granted, some of those things make us happy, like Cinderella Castle, Disney ducks, characters, and good food. But we’ve also seen some things that have left our jaws hanging in utter shock. So let’s look back over the past few years at the things that shocked us the MOST in Disney World.
A Bear in Magic Kingdom
In September 2023, a REAL LIVE bear (not Winnie the Pooh or the Country Bears) was spotted in Magic Kingdom. The bear was just hanging out, but its presence caused Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square to all be temporarily closed, which caused a bit of chaos.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission worked with Disney to safely remove the bear from the premises, and the rest of the park was opened to everyone once it had been captured.

A Fire in Magic Kingdom
In late 2021, a fire was reported in Magic Kingdom. We also discovered that Cinderella’s Royal Table was evacuated after a Cast Member reported the fire. What was wild was that emergency response vehicles were seen driving up Main Street, U.S.A. and near the Castle.
We later learned that the fire was in a tree near Cinderella Castle and that a “firework appeared to have caught the tree on fire.”

Skyliner Crash
In 2021, the Disney Skyliner gondolas crashed at the station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This resulted in people being stuck on the Skyliner, which is one of our worst fears! Although the crash only happened at one station, it affected the entire Skyliner system, so people all over Disney World were stuck.
Overall, the Skyliner didn’t move for about 45 minutes, but we guess this is why there are emergency kits in each gondola. Still, can you imagine being stuck up in the sky that long? We hope no one needed the bathroom during that time!

Guests stuck on the incline of Expedition Everest
Speaking of being stuck, Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom broke down in 2023 and left riders stranded on it. It’s WHERE they were stranded, though, that was so shocking. They were stuck on the incline going up the mountain. EEP. That’s another of our worst fears made real.
When we asked Cast Members about it, we learned that those poor folks had already been stuck at that angle for 30 minutes. All we can say is if that happens to you, try to remain calm (probably easier said than done), and Cast Members will be able to take care of you when they can.

Maleficent catching fire
In 2018, the Maleficent dragon float in the Festival of Fantasy Parade really got heated up when it caught fire DURING THE PARADE. We are happy to report that the driver of the float escaped safely and that no Cast Members or parade watchers were harmed.
This took the float out of the parade for an indefinite period of time, but we’re happy to report Maleficent has returned. However, a similar incident happened to the Maleficent dragon in a performance of Fantasmic! at Disneyland.

Is that an Octopus Tentacle in our drink?
Okay, so we’re still thinking about Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Sure, we got some AMAZING food during that time, but we got a few questionable things, too. The most shocking, though, was when we ordered the Squids Revenge Drink at Be Our Guest Restaurant. The drink was inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and, well, just look at it.
Yes, this drink has actual charred Octopus tentacles in it. Disney went LITERAL with this thing. However, we tried it — for science. It went about like you would’ve expected. The tentacle was cold, chewy, and pretty inedible. We will say this, though: We will NEVER forget it.

We saw the rafts at Fantasmic run into each other and the cast members were thrown all over the floors including the character members. It was scary!
