We love a day in Disney World when everything goes perfectly. When we step inside the gate ready to ride some rides and everything is up and running and working properly — that is the perfect Disney morning.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. We’ve noticed that not all the rides are morning people either. So while it can us a while to wake up and get ready, apparently some of the rides feel the same way. A few rides in Magic Kingdom clearly did not get their coffee on the morning of March 20th because several of them were temporarily closed right when we got there!
Magic Kingdom has many iconic and classic rides. It’s a great park for rope dropping so you can get on several of the popular rides right away in the morning. But those plans can become foiled if the rides don’t want to cooperate — which was clearly the case on this morning.
Four rides were temporarily closed on the morning of March 20th. We aren’t sure why, but we assume they were being a bit cranky for being woken up so early in the day.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and Space Mountain were all temporarily closed when we checked wait times around 8:30 AM.
This can shake things up pretty quickly when two or more of the most popular rides are temporarily closed in a park. You may notice that the wait times for other rides skyrocket while the people who would have been at these closed rides go find others to ride in the meantime.
For example, by 8:30AM Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was already up to 65 minutes.
Other parks also saw some temporary ride closures this same morning. Journey into Imagination with Figment in EPCOT and Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom were closed right away as well.
It’s important to remember that things like this can happen. So if you go into the parks with a very specific game plan, it’s good to also remain flexible (like Mrs. Incredible). The Cast Members work hard to ensure each ride is safe and ready for you to board, so generally we see these temporarily closed rides open back up again later in the day. Also, please remember it’s not the Cast Members’ fault, so always stay respectful and kind to them!

Oh boy! I wonder if the other rides are jealous of Tiana’s big makeover at Bayou Adventure? Sounds like a good day to pivot from the big rides to all the shorter attractions MK has to offer. I absolutely love Dumbo, especially with my littles – we could ride over and over and never get tired of it. 😊–Lindsey

If you can believe it, Small World broke down. We didn’t stay in line to see for how long it was out of service, but rode it later on in the day with my 3 small grandchildren. I still enjoy the ride.
