Spring is here, which means that summer is on the way. This ALSO means it’s about to get HOT in Orlando — real fast.
That’s why you may choose to spend a day at Typhoon Lagoon, one of Disney’s water parks that just reopened after a year-long refurbishment! If you’re headed there this summer, don’t discount some of the food offered here just because you’re rockin’ a swimmie! We headed into the park to check out everything that’s new on the restaurant menus, and you won’t want to miss these!
There are multiple different quick service spots and food stands around Typhoon Lagoon, and we grabbed four new items you 100% need to know about. Leaning Palms is one of the main quick service locations in the water park, and we HAD to try their new Pork Elote Nachos! These are made with Pork, Tri-color Nacho Chips, Jalapeño Cheese Sauce, Elote Corn Dip, Jalapeños, and Guacamole with Chopped Cilantro for $12.49.
To put it plainly, these ROCK. We love how the toppings are LOADED on top of the chips, and because of that, this could easily feed 1-2 people. We really loved the texture of the jalapeno cheese sauce, but just be aware that it doesn’t add that much spice to the dish.
However, the pickled jalapenos are spicy, so it’s pretty neat you can almost customize your spice level if you choose to eat around them. The best part though? Even if you get a chip that doesn’t have any toppings, it’s still delicious, because the chips have cantina seasoning! Plus, you can choose to get these with shrimp, chicken, pork, OR tofu, which is amazing. We will 100% be craving these.
Next we had to try the Pulled Pork Sandwich made with Roasted Pork Shoulder, Bacon, Andouille Sausage, Caramelized Onions, and Coleslaw topped with House-made Pickle Chips and drizzled with Horseradish Petal Sauce for $11.29. While this thing is massive and has tons of toppings with a buttery, soft bun, it’s a little bland.
The biggest flavor we got was from the pickles (which were amazing), and while the sausage is sweet, the flavor gets lost when mixed with everything else. The textures inside the sandwich are really nice too, but since it’s mostly pork, a lot of the flavor with it gets pulled away.
We think the horseradish sauce is a little light on flavor too, so grab yourself some barbecue sauce or hot sauce to add some flavor back in. That being said, this is leagues above what we would have expected from a water theme park, so if you’re looking for something hearty, maybe still give it a try!
To wash everything down, we got the Frozen Butterfly Pea Tea Lemonade made with Frozen Minute Maid Lemonade and Butterfly Pea Tea for $6.49 (or an alcoholic version for $16). Basically, this tastes like frozen lemonade but is MUCH prettier.
There’s a faint note of aromatic bitterness from the butterfly pea tea, but it’s easy to go unnoticed. We saw a lot of people walking around the park with these, and we totally understand why! It’s a great, refreshing drink for a hot day, so we say give it a try.
When we heard there was an updated version of the Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae, we headed straight over to Typhoon Tilly’s to grab it! This version is $15.99 and made with Dole Whip Pineapple, Dole Whip Strawberry, and Green Matcha Tea Soft-Serve. Plus, you get to keep the bathtub!
We’ll be honest — our reporter isn’t big on matcha, so she wasn’t sure how she’d like this one, especially since those popping pearls don’t make it the prettiest treat, but surprisingly, she really enjoyed the matcha soft-serve! It’s super creamy and not powdery like other matcha treats can be.
The acidity in the matcha also really balances well with the sweetness of the strawberry and pineapple Dole Whip, so this was a big win in our book. It’s not necessarily groundbreaking, but it’s certainly a solid, shareable sweet treat.
