Get a good look at these cabins. It may be one of the LAST times you see this log cabin-style building in Disney World! That’s right — it’s the end of an era. The old Cabins at Fort Wilderness are CHANGING, and Disney fans seem to have a LOT of opinions about the new design.
In fact, we have it on good authority (a.k.a. one of our DFB readers sent us some NEW photos) that these cabins are totally under construction right now. Want to see the current state of these cabins and learn about what’s coming soon? Come with us!
In 2023, Disney announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover. Imagineers are redesigning these spaces to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (note that you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to book a stay in a new cabin). Remember that cabin photo from above? Well, here’s a preview of the new design. We told you it was the end of an era!
Soon, over 350 refreshed cabins will debut in Disney World. Disney’s previous concept art includes a look at the modern cabins, which are “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.”
The cabins will still sleep up to six adults and feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Looking at the concept art for the bedroom, we see a Hey, Disney! device, bunk beds, and some Chip and Dale-inspired decorations. Some cabins will also be dog-friendly.
The updated floor plan shows a single bedroom off to the left and a bathroom on the right. In the center, you will find a kitchen, dining area, and sofa that folds down into a bed. It’s certainly a lot larger than a typical Disney World hotel room!
OK, one more reminder before we show you the latest update. Here’s the “BEFORE.”
Now, here’s the current state of these cabins, courtesy of DFB reader Doug. As you can see, the deck has been detached from one of the cabins. The cabin is located somewhere in the 9,200–9,300 loop.
Construction workers have also been spotted in the area.
It seems like Disney is ready to make some serious progress in the area! As a reminder, the NEW cabins are set to open on July 1st, 2024.
Thanks again to DFB reader Doug for the photos! We’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for additional updates. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

So sad about this. When you think of Fort Wilderness, you think of the LOG cabins. I mean if you wanted to redo the insides, replace the furniture…sure, but you should have left the LOG cabins. The look and style of them are not out of date. Go to the mountains of Colorado, Vermont, Tennessee or North Carolina…the log cabin is very much is style and can be multimillion dollar homes. These look like tiny houses built in storage containers. We just stayed in the cabins and it was perfect.

I am upset about this As stated above re do the cabins interiors or keep these rent out cheaper and have the New cabins in their own area. There is plenty of land.
Same with the Star Wars Hotel experience. Waste of $ and materials to just abandon.

I agree! The exterior doesn’t fit the forest look, neither does the interior. The interior reminds me of a motor home interior. So long to the storybook vacation, I’m not saying they aren’t nice looking, just that the theming is gone. They really aren’t ‘cabins’ anymore. Just a standard hotel suite plopped in between trees. Blah! But hey with the push to convert all resorts to 75% DVC accommodations, I get it. Money has always been the basis for Disney decisions. Since Walt passed away that is. And let me say, I’m a DVC owner and I don’t agree with this change. Bad call Disney. As always our thoughts fall on deaf ears.

The new bathroom location requires everyone to go through the living area to go to the toilet. Not great if you are sleeping on the Murphy bed. You wilĺ be disturbed every time someone uses the bathroom. The old design was much better with the bath off the bedroom.

Huge mistake. I feel these decisions are made by CA executives that don’t understand the customer base of the Fort at all….. Or maybe they just don’t want that customer base anymore.

I don’t care for it either. I’ve said before that I think the new design looks like what you’d find in a trailer park. Sleek and modern does not belong in the wild – rustic does. I can’t imagine why anyone thought this was a good idea.

They look like the set from a 1950’s sitcom…

How ugly and horrible! Since when is a ‘log cabin’ not a relevant style? Even if I am not a cabin type of person I can recognize that it is very much a timeless style (as Debra also said). And holds a lot of appeal to the thousands of who own and vacation in them—around the world (we can throw Switzerland in there too). And the new “cabins” look like modern storage containers…I cannot imagine whey Disney would think people who want a rustic, camping, cabiney, outdoors, in-the-woods, type of experience would prefer something modern? Who are they polling to make these changes?!
