Sometimes you can plan the perfect day at Disney World and use all the tricks, tips, and tools like Genie+ to help you do and see it “all” and there are just some things preventing you from making it through everything that is out of your control.
We’ve had the best of days and the worst of days in Disney World and even our experience can’t help when there’s simply just a rough start or rough patch throughout the day for rides and attractions. We’re breaking down our experience with rides that we’ve deemed the best and worst on our list based on their reliability.
Finding just the right order to time what you’re planning to ride and when can be tough! With so many variables that can happen throughout the day, it’s hard to always get through everything you want to experience throughout your visit to Disney World’s parks.
So if you’re looking to take a more calculated approach to your day’s ride strategy we have a few suggestions to share. We’ve compiled a list of rides we just can’t trust to be working properly or delayed on any given day… and a few that we could almost bet money on to be running like clockwork.
Let’s take a look at each of the rides that topped the lists of BOTH categories so you can make the best decision in how you strategize your time spent in ride and attraction lines.
Rides You Can’t Trust
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
The very first ride that came to mind for us would be the “wildest ride in the wilderness” and boy, does it live up to its motto!
This ride goes down ALL the time! There’s nothing more annoying than walking all the way to the back of Frontierland to find that Big Thunder Mountain is down for the count and temporarily delayed.
Pirates of the Caribbean
This is a ride that we could almost set our watch by… for all the wrong reasons!
This ride seems to close at least once a day, and when it’s closed, it’s not uncommon for it to be closed for an extended amount of time. By the time you’ve done all the rest of the rides in the park before heading out or park hopping for the day, you can check to see if it’s back up and running again — but we don’t think you should count on it.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Technology advancements are marvels of the modern world… when they work like they should.
Remy’s has made our list because of its trackless ride system. While it may be one of the many innovative tools that make this ride such a cool experience, it’s just not terribly dependable to stay working all day long. When it goes down, that typically means a lengthy reset to reopen, so you could also find yourself waiting around for a while when you could be spending precious time experiencing something else until it is back up and running.
Rise of the Resistance
On that note, ANOTHER trackless ride has made our list, too!
To no one’s surprise, Rise of the Resistance (Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge’s arguably coolest attraction) also features a trackless ride system that is just as unreliable. There are also a lot of complicated synchronized sequences that can also go down on this ride causing the entire attraction’s “experience” to be temporarily delayed.
Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster
This ride has made our list because its mishaps resulted in it closing for a lengthy refurbishment, AGAIN!
Within months of the long-closed attraction’s celebrated reopening multiple issues surfaced keeping this ride from successfully running throughout the day. This reached a point where it was seemingly happening more days than not and as a result, it is now currently closed for its second multi-month refurbishment within the past year and a half.
Test Track
Sometimes, it’s just due to the wild Florida weather, which seems to be (mostly) Test Track’s problem.
This is a ride that we’re used to seeing temporarily down or delayed almost once a day. As we mentioned before, it also closes for weather a lot and cannot operate in inclement weather (especially when rain is involved).
Switching gears a bit, let’s take a look at a few rides that we feel are most dependable to plan your day around!
Rides That Won’t Let You Down
Kilimanjaro Safaris
You may think that a ride working around wild animals roaming a savanna would lead to an unpredictable ride schedule, but we’re happy to report that’s just not the case with this attraction!
It’s rare that this attraction goes down throughout the day (and if it does, it’s likely due to the animals blocking the road), however, it does have strange operating hours so be warned!
The Seas With Nemo and Friends
Another faithful attraction is also a great ride to sit a spell and get some well-deserved AC!
It’s rare for The Seas With Nemo and Friends to go down, and even if it does, you can still enter the aquarium to tour the rest of SeaBase and Turtle Talk with Crush.
Living With The Land
This is almost a tale as old as time (or at least EPCOT’s opening) itself.
We could sing the praises of Living With the Land for days, and it’s super rare for this ride to go down. Additionally – it’s a long and relaxing ride, so consider it a great option for a mid-day break!
“It’s A Small World”
It’s almost like nothing can stop this ride (or it’s earworm tune)!
This Disney classic attraction may be almost the same as it was from its opening day but it works just as well as the clock found within its loading area. It keeps moving all day long, usually, and makes us really question if they ever attempt to turn it and the singing dolls off at night!
Tomorrowland Speedway
This is another weather-dependent attraction, but the weather typically has to be pretty bad for it to close because we’ve seen these cars run in the rain before!
Since the entire attraction is built with running individual cars, this ride really only shuts down for inclement weather, and seems to be an impenetrable force itself.
Mad Tea Party
Love it or hate it — you can almost always count on this attraction!
Mad Tea Party boasts one of the most classic ride systems and this one’s an ol’ reliable! In fact, we’re really questioning when the last time was that we saw this attraction not in operation.
Mission Space
This is another ride we’re scratching our heads over just searching for when it was most recently inoperable.
Maybe it’s because people tend to avoid this ride, but it doesn’t seem to go down very often!
Star Tours
This is very easily the most reliable Star Wars attraction of them all at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
With multiple individual ride systems, it’s easy to keep running if one is down.
As you can see, there are several that we can also live and breathe by, and quite a few that can be a wildcard experience during your park day. Be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest in Disney news, updates, and more!
